European Olympics Anyone?
The European Union want to get on the Olympics gravy train and intend to introduce their own version of the Games by 2015.
We already have the Commonwealth Games which Scotland is hosting in 2014, but will the EU's latest decision dilute the standard of international sports?
The unelected have decided already they will go ahead.

I thought we had European championships?
not a bad idea if scotland could compete as a country.possibly a bit more competative than the commonwealth games.
Jumping through hoops is one of the games they have planned Joe.
Lupus, of course we do, I'd forgotten that. They're obviously not big enough for Brussels though.
Another expensive boys' fest hector. How many athletes will benefit? It would be good to hear from someone who works or is associated with sport.
Let see what other version of games are going to be introduced ??

Desperation - cash and cow springs to mind.
Gravy Train Relay, Trough Diving, Straight Banana Throwing, Prime Minister Long Jump (Greece and Italy invitation only), Bankers Bailout Cash Dash and the Referendum Back Pedalling Marathon .... should be good fun I say.
Going by Europe's finances of late, I'd be surprised if they stretched to a coconut shy.

How about everyone tied together in the 28-legged race or the two-speed 4x100m sprint relay? The 400m hurdles event would allow the French to ignore the hurdles when convenient but British runners would face higher and wider steeplechase jumps because of the British authority's gold-plating the Euro regulations.
Seriously, I would welcome a sports event without any flags or anthems.

Having no experience of high level sport pa_broon, I can only judge by what I read.
As I understand it sports people have 'peaks' and I wonder if having to 'peak' for another event would be beneficial to their wellbeing.
Me too Brian and without any freeloaders either. Anyone attending to spectate should pay personally and stop the circus.

Auch hector, I'm all for competitive sport or competitive anything, but it's the freeloaders and hangers on who attend these things I find irritate.
