A guest post by Apogee.
In the 50's and 60's there were attempts to modify weather with spraying various things, dry ice, yes CO2 was one -I think bromide was another and we dont know what else. This should be stirred because the illegitimates are taking us to the cleaners. The reason for the experiments was ostensibly to cause rain where the climate had become dryer than it used to be. Manipulation of weather is still continuing and the German greens have brought the issue to the attention of the public.
If you think about the possibility of the planet cooling, the result of the current actions may be the reduction of coal and atomic power stations to nil and the realisation that there is not enough generation capacity to supply needs when we are in a situation where the coal mines have deteriorated to the point of being unusable. Having no quick means of increasing generating capacity, the government will need at least three years to get enough generating capacity of any kind and the quickest will be ........coal!
By that time the country will be in increasing power deficit which will only be corrected at the end of the correction time. And if, as seems to be the case, the whole country will be literally be freezing to death. Never forget that although gas may be available - if you can afford it - central heating systems require electric power to operate and if the electric is not there the heating will not run. If the weather gets too cold the windmills will not turn so will not generate, assuming that there is any wind to turn them.
So will the average citizen have back-up electric generation capability? Very unlikely and will there be fuel for it if available? Equally unlikely.
So what is the answer? Either a sudden outbreak of sanity and logical thinking by our politicians to get us out of the "green bubble" we are now in (and you thought the credit bubble was bad!) or the only sane alternative is to emigrate to any other country with a reasonable warm climate and living standards which will have you and your dependants; In other words become a refugee. Because it is very probable this country will no longer be able to pay the current levels of benefits and pensions that are paid now.

No chance, they will seek to find a war to generate energy and excuse their historic failings. Great post, Apogee.
I suspect wood burning stoves will be a popular alternative in the near future. It's worth getting one now and getting your stock of wood built up. There will be a fight for supplies in the future. The recent storms knocked my power out and I could still use the gas fire and cooker by lighting them with a match.
Moving abroad to a warmer climate might be an option but the savings in heating costs would be wiped out by paying for healthcare etc.
Plus popular retirement countries such as Spain and Cyprus are teetering on the edge so civil unrest might be imminent. Their property markets have also crashed like ours and this may fool ex pats into jumping in to buy up 'bargains' and escape the cold. Ignoring the fact that the houses are so cheap because the country is bankrupt and unrest is imminent.
With both the Scottish and UK govts being full believers in the global warming scam the future does indeed look bleak. Thousands of windmills sitting idle during a long bitterly cold winter while we pay over the odds for imported power from France.
One of the predictions made by climate change scientists is that Scotland will freeze: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE5u4zDhOno&feature=related
Hi OR,Unfortunately I feel I have to agree with you, they will do their best to blame anything but themselves. Nothing new there.
Thanks for the compliment.
Hi RM. Yes, could be a big call for wood. Thats why they want to plant millions of trees, but that will take ten years to grow, what do we use in the meantime? Ah , I had forgotten the old council house standby, floorboards ! Was reminded of this by a friend who said they had a case last winter, seems to burn well!
As for leaving the UK, I was meaning the EUSSR as well , get out of the frying pan altogether, not just jump into the fire.
Will we be able to buy power from France in a few years time?Pay for it with second hand windmills?
Think we agree on the fundamentals!
Hi there McGonagall, and thanks for the link. A few interesting vids there.I think it will get colder although I dont think the gulf stream will stop for a while, unless something geologically drastic happens, which will mean we will have more than cold and taxes to worry about. But the vids are food for thought.
Very interesting post Apogee.
I have trouble with the title though, "Killing Us To Save The World".
I fear it should have been: "Killing Us, and there's still no proof it'll actually Save The World"
Jeremy Rifkin Nucléaire France
Joe, the choice of title was mine. I apologise if I didn't choose the most appropriate one.
That's a super video CH. I think I'll have to recruit you as my link partner. :) They're always welcome.
That was from Bellacaledonia SB I am just an unpaid 'lifter/depositor'.
You should start charging CH. :)
Hi Joe, sorry to be slow replying, the net in this area was kaput.
Thanks for the laugh, I agree with your thoughts, but a headline has to fit available space.
Hi CH. Again apologies for being so long in replying, the net here was Kaput, have not found out why as yet.
That was a very interesting link you sent. You will have ,of course realised that what the gentleman was saying was that almost all of the biggest means of power generation, we shortly will not be allowed to use.
Not cannot use, but will NOT be ALLOWED to use, because we cannot contain the waste created. As we all are aware, or should be, that has always been the case with the gas and oil industry, the token gesture in the car industry was the NO2 generating catalytic convertor. So what next, price fuel oil out of the reach of most people? That why the pump price is about£1.40 a litre and climbing? Hadnt thought of that angle before,Has Mr Salmond?
Apogee
Price is about EROEI which can only get worse living on a finite planet where all the easy to get minerals have already been exploited. We are heading towards the 'Perfect Storm' and how that turns out is anyones guess but it is unlikely to be peaceful.
Hi CH. Will not disagree with what you say.But there is a difference between not having something to use, and not being allowed to use something because of someone else stopping you for reasons that seem other than what they say. The way this is being done is more likely to cause insurrection than any thing else. And are you going to tell a crowd of people who are freezing and starving because they cannot cook their food that they cannot light that fire because it will smoke?
Excellent post Apogee, and equally excellent link from CH. Rifkins comments have a much wider meaning. He just misses out on naming the benefactors of Uranium mining and weaponisation of the after product, perfectly true on all counts.
Cheers all.
Hi Derek, and thank you. There are many things hidden in this business, things are slowly becoming clearer, but still a lot of questions to be answered, and we still don't know all the questions.
Is there any particular reason hydro-power is completely ignored in this article? I ask because this is, after all, Scotland.
Hi Jo. I'll ask Apogee to respond to you. It could be tomorrow though.
Hi Jo. The reason was simply that no one was shooting at it or pushing it,so in a sense it wasn't in play.
I would agree with you that Hydro Electricity should be ideal For this country but I was surprised to see an article in one of the local papers which seemed to say that for some reason a lot of Scotland was unsuitable. Having spent the first forty years of my life in Tasmania where big Hydro Electric development was going on all the time I found this surprising and now wonder if there is another agenda involved,as the terrain is similar. As hydro electric is a renewable, I would have thought it would be getting pushed hard, and yet it doesn't seem to be? Strange!
Hi Jo, Just thinking about it, I will try and see if I can find out why it does not seem to be in favour, could come down to money, the cost of construction and the amount of cash that can be trousered ;-D.
Saw an article yesterday saying one of the wind farms in the north east ,I think, was shut down by court order temporarily due to excessive noise in the nearby village.
Hi JO, bit more information.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewable_energy_in_Scotland .
Scroll through to the piece on Hydroelectric, it seems pretty much all of the suitable sites have already been used .
Hi Apogee. That surprises me Hydro is nearly at its limit. I would have thought it was only the cost which was a deterrent. Hydro seems to be mainly here and further north. Surely there's capacity for it in the central belt. Sorry for the questions. :)
"Hi Jo. The reason was simply that no one was shooting at it or pushing it,so in a sense it wasn't in play."
I think you've missed a lot of evidence all over Scotland that hydro power has been and still is in play all over Scotland! The terrain wasn't suitable then either but they did it.
Scotland has an abundance of water that can work for us. It is, as far as I know, very much in the big plan and I think anyone who rules it out of a debate like this or suggests it has no role to play must simply not want to include it. I simply do not understand why anyone would do that.
What is your personal position on nuclear incidentally? Are you comfortable with it? Because there is seriously dangerous waste involved there which we have no safe way of disposing of.
Apogee, no one was shooting at it? Read this:

By all means oppose wind power if you must but please don't try and narrow down the energy possibilities agenda to suit your own. You say no one was shooting at it. I say you weren't shooting at it yourself and so, for you, that made it irrelevant. That isn't honest of you.
Jo, I think I see where Apogee's coming from. Not so many people dig around in the Scottish government's website to find out about hydro. The buzzword for the past couple of years has been renewables mainly on and off shore turbines. Very little, if anything, has been said by the SG in the media about hydro.
I completely agree with hydro. Problem is we're spending billions on wind which has proved to be inefficient. Who pays? You and me.
