You Can't Fix Stupid

Hundreds of climate change protestors barricaded the road leading to Coryton oil refinery at Stanford-le-Hope yesterday.  They claimed they had stopped 375,000 gallons of fuel, (50 oil tankers), from leaving the depot.  More demonstrators travelled from London to join the Crude Awakening protest and set up another blockage close to the entrance of the Shell Haven Oils Site on the same road.

Another demonstrator, Terri Orchard, said: "We don't have a hope of tackling climate change if we don't find a way to start moving beyond oil.
"Oil companies are devastating local environments, trampling the rights of local communities, and pushing us over the edge to catastrophic climate change.
"We are here at the source of the problem, at the UK's busiest oil refinery, to stop the flow of oil to London.
"We're here to put a spanner in the works of the relentless flow of oil and to say no more. This place, this whole industry, must become a thing of the past."
What happens when in about 72 hours time their favourite supermarket is empty because there are no deliveries (no oil) and people can't go to work (no petrol).  The 'pipeline' carrying goods and food will take up to three weeks to get back to full operation when oil is again available.  Most businesses will be disrupted in some way, be it because staff can't get into work or staff, who have to travel during the course of their working day, find their transport has no fuel.

Who will be responsible for the lack of ambulances, police, fire or other emergency services who cannot carry out their duties because of the lack of oil products?  Not these folk of course because they were 'only making a point'.  One 'point' to mention, how did most travel?  By bicycle or did they walk? Answers on a stamp please.

Rather than disrupt the economy they would do more good joining this debate or reading this theory.

And I presume all the protesters walked to the site!

Oh aye Joe and I don't suppose they have gas heating in their homes either. Or when they're away on their protests they'll be building fires (a big no no) instead of using a primus stove (another no no).

I wonder if the timing of this protest has more to do with the end of the festival season than the iniquities of the oil industry.

"The incident began when 12 women locked themselves in immobilized VEHICLES parked across both lanes of the access road to the Coryton refinery."

Just a thought.

Oh bless. :)

You just have to love these young eco-warriors as they campaign against the evils of the oil industry
… as they stand there in their plastic (oil based derivative) anoraks
… with their synthetic (oil based derivative) rucksacks on their back
… wearing their composite (oil based derivative) trainers on their feet
… taking sips from their mountain spring water from a small plastic (oil based derivative) bottle.

Thanks Rosie,

Excellent piece. These protesters have a point but they are woefully ignorant on the subject. I'm sure they'd be begging for the tap to get switched back on after a week.

We do indeed need a responsible debate on the subject. Great changes lie ahead and we need cool heads to navigate our way through it!

You can't fix stupid, SR, but you can sure as hell shoot the buggers!

" pushing us over the edge to catastrophic climate change."

Tut tut. That's so last week. It's 'climate disruption' now. Why aren't these kids getting with the programme ?
I blame the education system .The climate propoganda that they're fed isn't being updated fast enough to keep up with the climate scam propoganda.

Fewer people, (this lot to volunteer to snuff it first?), less pollution, less damage. Climate change? Too big a matter for puny humans. I prefer to call it nest fouling. Bet this lot all live in a mess they never comprehend is more damaging, rodent attracting and dangerous to health than any "climate crap", unproven and discredited theory.

Very possibly Macheath. :)

Well done SH for highlighting that. I thought about it then thought someone would do it for me. :)

Very swiftly Specky.

Not so sure about stupid ,but you can fix ignorance!
If oil stopped tomorrow ,the trucks would still run. Most are diesel and will run on vegitable oil, even the used stuff from the chip shop. The car was originally designed to run on hemp or peanut oil ,it still can today. The original cars where built from hemp!Hemp can be grown on fallow land and therefore will have no effect on food production. It can also produce hemp steal , hemp plastics , textiles ,paper etc etc..
Oil(hydrocarbon) is not a fossil fuel ,this is just more ignorance. Titan has the most amount of hydrocarbons known.Must of been a lot of dinosaurs orbiting Saturn!!!
The fuel crisis is almost as fake as the climate change crisis.

They are just opportunistically seeing a WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY wrt to France where they oil refineries are under blocade because of the problems of having to retire at 62, maybe.

Middle class, middle IQ.

100% ejits

Hope the tooth is better. The protestors might have been better placed demonstrating about all the uses of petro-chemicals that are not necessary or are damaging. There is a huge waste of resources which we may soon regret.

Hi Subrosa, you get a mention on the Scottish Roundup blog this week.

We're not prepared for such a scenario cuthulan so business would be greatly disrupted. Our lifestyles would be affected by the lack of oil when you consider how its derivatives are used.

subrosa said...

Your analogy Bugger. High class, high IQ?

subrosa said...

Slightly thanks Demetrius. Will need attention tomorrow I think. I think that's a great point for debate, petro-chemicals.

subrosa said...

Thanks for letting me know Eddie. Kind of you.

Such a pity they don't understand what they're doing John. Must be something to do with today's education standards.

Keep banging the drum Alex. Eventually people will waken up and see the issues.

With paintballs I hope WfW. :)

They are becoming rather wearisome RM with their uncool sayings.

The pro-lobby doesn't have anymore propaganda to offer them. They've run out.

subrosa said...

Nest fouiing - wonderful description OR. They won't stop having their home delivery pizzas though.

Witterings from Witney said...

No SR, bloody bullets!

subrosa said...

Oh dear WfW, you do feel strongly - although I see why. ;)

As the saying goes - if you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything.

That should wind up the warmists :)

subrosa said...

Aye, I saw that at EU Ref RM. They're only made in screw type though but I'll be in line for a couple of 100w ones as soon as they're on sale.

Hi Subrosa
I agree with your arguements,BUT diesel is the norm for trucks, including the very cheap red diesel, it is tax that makes the cost of fuel.We would pour vegitable in our trucks and keep going, cheaper and greener.meanwhile those with sense would be planting hemp crops on every bit of fallow land.As for the oil based derivitives , its the same story.Trainers can be made from hemp canvas and will last longer and be biodegradable the first jeans where hemp.Hemp tar was used to waterproof ships. Hemp plastic built the first cars. The French are building houses out of the stuff.30% of all argocultural land is fallow ,waiting for hemp production and it grows like a weed, a crop every few months!!I agree it would take time to adjust, but that is the same with everything , its called progress.
The fuel crisis would cause inconvenience and even some avoidable deaths I am sure but not the end of the world senario predicted. i think we would all be pleasantly suprised.
btw ,i agree the protesters are hypocrites ,it was the msm take on the fuel crisis that i mean is curable ignorance.

Hi Cuthulan, I use diesel in my car and have done for about three of them now. I've heard the hemp argument before and looked for my links. They're somewhere, just I can't find them. :(

I'll look again when I have more time. Thanks for all the information. Most enlightening. It needs to be brought into the argument more. Have you left anything on Alex Porter's PeakOil blog?

here are some links to get you going.
Hemp grows like a weed, requires no fertilizer and pesticides (truly organic), reduces the use of our forests–the lungs of our planet—, replenishes rather than depletes the soil and its fiber is strong and beautiful. The new hemp particle boards are rock solid. The French build entire houses out of hemp!

Film footage that was to have been used as roll-in material on the television series, 'Time 4 Hemp'. For some reason, the material was never used. The entire auto body was made from hemp. The cloth and plastic material used inside the car was made from hemp. The fuel the car ran on was fuel made from hemp.

The reason i am against the oil industry is because they polute and lie and do not care about the health and well being of workers or locals.
Most things the oil industry produces there are already better ,less polutant , less risk alternatives. It is just very profitable for a few people ,that we make all these things from oil.
