What a Feat of Engineering

At 4.11am the first of the Chilean miners arrived back on the surface.  Florencio Avalos, married with two children, has been trapped along with his brother, 29 year old Renan.  He was chosen to go first because he is in good physical shape.

The initial arrival of the capsule - containing rescuer Manuel Gonzalez -  in the miners' chamber was overwhelming.

A medic is now down in the chamber and a second miner is on his way to the surface. Time for me to have some sleep.

I find it so hard to believe that the media is actually broadcasting good news!

Still, back to normal soon...

I think Sky has done the better job Dioclese and they have far less staff there than the BBC.

It was breathtaking Richard, sitting in the dark watching the breakthrough.

I stayed up until gone midnight, but when the Minister said it would be another two hours I gave up and went to bed. I watched first thing this morning. Fantastic.

I kept thinking I would just wait another ten minutes, then it was 5am. Was worth it though Richard.
