Oh The Irony
We're so 'lucky', having 3 'Free Sheets' every week, each comprising 48 x tabloid-size pages of newsprint.
Each is delivered, unrequested, and promptly helps fill our recycle bin.
The front page of the latest one though, caught my eye. Plastered all over it was propaganda from 10:10, imploring us to Reduce Carbon Emissions.
So I have done. I've complained to the publisher instructing them to never deliver any more to my address. (One has to do one's bit to help save the Planet).

Can I add a short note here please Joe? My blogger friend ASE reports that '10:10 wants as many people as possible to send in pictures of their low carbon Sunday lunch tomorrow - email photos@1010global.org '. I've just sent mine and a copy is below. Maybe it could be lower in carbon if I omitted the ice? Subrosa

Mmm. I've been burning all my damp tree cuttings to create smoke for my contribution to 10 10 low CO2 day and came across a weird looking mushroom. Purple with yellow on top. I wonder if I should eat it for lunch. It must be very low in CO2 because there are no food miles and it grew without fertilisers or anything. I'll take a photo before eating in case I need the antidote to revive me.
I'll e mail Franny photos of the smokey fire and the mushroom. A sort of good and evil set of pics. Ying and yang. Like her flying to America to attend a save the planet conference sort of thing.
Now *that's* my sort of lunch. Bombay Sapphire for the gin, maybe, and that looks a scary amount of tonic (I'm guessing the other bottle is out of shot) but it's a splendid offering!
I'm sure she'll be delighted to receive your contribution RM. She's be into smoky fires for baking her potatoes. Saves the electricity required for the oven.
Those were the days ASE. ;) Campari and soda was another favourite for summer Sunday lunches.
Have you ever tried looking up MSP expenses SR ? It's obviously set up to deter visitors. Numerous drop down selections and options instead of a straightforward page for each MSP. I was interested in Green MSP Patrick Harvie's recent '14,000 mile trip of a lifetime' to the USA.
He details some of it in his members interests bit but I gave up looking at the expenses. The US State Department covered his accommodation ( £5K for 3 weeks hotels - can't have been very green). He enjoyed other flights - Zambia etc. I don't know what he'll do if he manages to stop the deep sea drilling off Shetland. Maybe he can swim to Africa and America when oil drilling is banned.
His 'green vision'..

not for him of course - just for the proles who pay his wages.

Thankfully no free sheets here to ponder over, and it must be said, I thoroughly enjoyed my Sunday meal today, and not till now have I given the slightest consideration to ‘carbon emissions’, personal or otherwise.
My carbon footprint for today’s meal, in fact probably for all my meals this year, is but a mere speck of soot in comparison to that of Lady Catherine Ashton’s little jolly to Mauritius (outlined in an earlier topic).
Only once I see that the political classes and business executives are leading by example will I give consideration to my meagre individual carbon emissions.
If there is an argument to be made for each of us reducing our individual carbon emissions, then 10:10 are failing miserably in getting that message across.
Currently, they are only succeeding in antagonising more than they are converting to their cause.
Time for them, and their sponsors, to have a serious re-think about the direction of 10:10’s current publicity material.
I have tried looking at their expenses RM. Don't you sense the frustration in my posts at times when I'm writing about them? It's impossible to translate but that's the whole idea.
Thank you for the links. I asked Mr Harvey, on Twitter the other day, who would be defining the land £ in his new land tax. He never replied.
Well said John. That's the feeling here. Until these folk start practicing what they preach I will continue to act sensibly in my own home. 'Green' issues don't arise here, only economic ones.
