Afghanistan, Insult and a Couple of Opinions

A British soldier has died in hospital after being shot in Afghanstan three weeks ago, the Ministry of Defence revealed.

The soldier, from 2nd Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, part of Combined Force Nahr-e Saraj (South), in the District of Helmand Province on 23 August.

He died in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham yesterday.

His death brings the total number of British military personnel killed in Afghanistan since the conflict began to 335.

It's said we have a Military Covenant. No sign of it here. Long past time government sorted out this mess, simplified the system and honoured those who offer to protect us. Yet we make no protest and appear to condone this lifestyle. I despair at times at today's society.

Two well known Iraqi bloggers from either side of the political spectrum, give their opinionson Obama's surge strategy in Afghanistan, in The Hill blog. A must read for those of us with an interest in the Afghanistan war. Their opinions may surprise you.
