He Did It His Way

Back in the 80s my long-departed mother-in-law introduced me to the late night world of snooker. Like me, she was a night hawk and it was a pleasure to share the later hours with her. Also she was an avid viewer of snooker.

One of her favourite players died yesterday. Alex Higgins brought her so much delight with his emotional and somewhat erratic yet stunning play. Even in her last months he had her poised on the edge of her chair with excitement. There was nothing I could do but share the moments and I did.

Farewell Alex. You played the whole game your way, with your emotions always to the fore. Sadly, lady luck wasn't too kind to you but I thank you for the pleasure you brought to many, including myself.

He'll be missed. R.I.P.

Indeed SR even his high jinks brought on a smile or two. Although I still keep away from big plant pots in fancy conference centres!

Thank you JJ. Alex balanced the serious Steve Davis very well.

Aye Dram, plant pots and Higgins were mutual admirers in a way. :)
