FOOTBALL and WAR
As England geared up for their match in South Africa today a soldier, from the 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment, serving as part of the Combined Force Nahr-e Saraj (South), was killed in Afghanistan this afternoon.
He was part of a team that was improving the security around one of the military check points when he was struck by an explosion.
His family has been informed. This death takes the toll of this war to 295 and no indiction from our politicians that our troops will be withdrawn anytime soon.

PS Am I the only one who thinks it’s disgusting that our England “Heroes” in their six star golf resort in the RSA with their hundred grand a week salaries have pledged to win it (which they won’t) for the lads in the ’stan who are living in tents, getting shot at by bearded loons and are on about the same cash as Billy No Stars at McDonalds? Some people are worrying if the missus back in Blighty ought to go for a Brazilian wax this summer or the full Sphinx and some wonder if their missus (whether waxed or not) will next see them in a pine box being carried out of the back of a C-17 whilst a band plays “Nimrod”.
I know who the real heroes and heroines of my nation are this summer and they are nowhere near Johannesburg.

That's all anyone can ask of another QM, their best. Football is only entertainment after all and I suppose it does keep a few off the streets. ;)

I was disgusted by Sky News putting an American soldier and an English one up for comment/argument on a football game, on the day that another British death was announced.
No more football for the poor guy who died, no fun for his family to have heard the news.
Sky have no morals or taste.
Thankfully I didn't see that William. I would have been disgusted if I had.
Glad I was not the only one who felt the same William.
