Lordy, At Last!

Above is the former First Minister of Scotland Dr Jack Wilson McConnell MSP. In an effort to avoid any misunderstanding, he's the one in the kilt. (Has anyone ever found out the name of the bloke in the bunnet?)

Shortly Mr McConnell will be sworn in as Lord McConnell of 'somewhere in the west'.

So Jack's finally be awarded his ermine robe and £300 a day attendance fee. They've been promised long enough. Will he leave the Scottish Parliament? (Lord) George Foulkes somehow manages to be an MSP and a member of the House of Lords so there is no reason why Jack couldn't follow in his footsteps.

Jack has said he will do both jobs, following in the steps not just of George Foulkes, but the fiery Mike Watson.

Thanks for that Hamish. Remember how the unionists used to criticise Salmond for having two jobs?

Bloke in the bunnet looks like Jimmy Reid

Aye he does Jim but it's not him. His shoes are too highly polished. :)

Ah still think the man in the bunnet is Mr McConnell Sr, takin' his bairn oot fer a walk in his new kilt. "Gaun son, show them yer dancin' steps"

I have a DVD of an old-time comedian called Arthur Haines and I'm not sure if he's still alive but the good looking chap in the picture is the spitting image of him. He seems to be looking at Jack and thinking "WTF?"

Mr Brown’s legacy – jobs for the boys.

I see he is entering the Lords amidst good company, such as ‘Two Jags’ Prescott.

Time for our new coalition to perform a root and branch pruning of the second chamber, me thinks.

I was highly amused at Iain Gray’s comments at Mr McConnells peerage, saying it was – “well deserved and appropriate recognition”
Mmm …our esteemed Mr Gray wouldn’t be putting down a marker for the future, would he?

Labour owed him one after failing to make him High Commissioner to Malawi. A job he couldn’t take because Labour were afraid to hold a by-election.

Oddly enough I think that in the current political climate in Scotland Labour would win a by-election in Dr Wilson’s seat.

Love it Sophia!

Brownlie, that's the name I've been searching for - Arthur Haines. I was more along the lines of "Ye big jessie ye".

Morning John. I don't see this new government making any radical changes to the system. Why alter the culture of a club when it seems to work perfectly well for all concerned. All except a few fraudsters of course.

They did indeed owe him one Munguin and he did hold the party together if I remember.

Yes I think that too. The SNP wouldn't be able to capitalise on Jack standing down. They can't seem to capitalise on anything at the moment.

Is that really a kilt McConnell is wearing? I've never seen one like that before though I have seen something similar worn by some flamboyant participants at passing Gay Pride marches. It's a skirt, isn't it?
And the bloke in the bunnet looks to me like RSM Riddick from that grand old film "Tunes Of Glory" which I often watch when in my cups and longing for the old days. (Riddick was played by Percy Herbert.)

Lord Jack of Napes might be an appropriate title..........West Napes of course

It was a 'modern' take on the kilt he's 'modelling' if I remember Henry. It's not a pair of trousers anyway.

Jings you're jogging my memory a bit too much there Henry. ;)

Ouch Dram, that's kind of tough. :)
