Election Results - Live Blog

Owing to the success of the Leaders' Debates LiveBlog, I will be hosting an all-night one here from 10pm tonight. It will finish when the last Moderator drops from exhaustion, disappointment or the excesses of celebration.

Do join in anytime. You can dip in and out of it during the night and share your opinions with others.

As I've done previously, this is a joint LiveBlog collaboration with a host of super fellow bloggers:

Please do join us during the result programmes. I will be on Twitter on behalf of Perth and North Perthshire too so maybe a cup of full power may be required instead of my usual decaf!

It is saying that I have already voted in this poll when I most certainly have not.

Jings folks, I don't know what's happening. I'll see if I can find out in the help bit if they have one.

I hoping to join you tonight Subrosa, us Perth and North Perthshire lot should stick together, even though our politics are diametrically opposed (oops. Sorry). At least I can have respect and understanding for your views and the way you voice them, even if I don't usually agree!

Well while you're all wading through the broth of statistics and the hyperbole of analysis. Give some thought as to why you're doing what you're doing?

Generally its perceived as watching the cogs of democracy forming a functioning gear train for the purposes of government to create a democratic society.

Problem is there are at least two different conceptions of democracy.

The first is the dictionary definition. Probably the concept most people believe defines our democracy. It goes something like this -

A democratic society is one in which the public has the means to participate in a meaningful way in the management of their own affairs and the means of information are open and free.

The alternative conception is that the public must be barred from the managing of their own affairs and the means of information must be kept narrowly and rigidly controlled.

The alternative version is the model of democracy we have known in Britain since the 17th century; one which has been honed, polished and bulwarked to the present day.

It's the Westminster system designed to maintain the status quo of their Union and its controls and the benefits it awards its elites.

Part of its controls is the circus it presents every five or so years when the bewildered herd is allowed to vote on who had the best script, plot and actors; and who promised the best show.

Really the Westminster/Whitehall cabal don't mind who wins because they all sup from the same trough and dance(with minor variation) to the same tune.

That tune is titled -"Manufacturing Consent" and its lyrics emphasise the mantra of the only good that can be associated with common is for the bewildered herd to be under their control and husbandry.

With the exceptions of the parties standing for independence - who by reason of limitation and ideology - and who by definition are not part of the Establishment. This is the concept of democracy being argued over but, and vastly more unfortunate, the only choice they're allowing us to live in.

If, that is, were happy as part of the herd?

Auch I just do as I'm told Indyan. It's Gotty who kindly does the technical bits and pieces for me. Look forward to seeing you then.

Jings Clarinda, not you too. :( I'm waiting for an email from their advice centre to see if they know what I can do.

Auch TBD, hope you have a radio nearby. You'll be able to sit quietly and consider it all while some of us crawl off to bed exhausted.

Hi Mavis, it'll be good to see you, look forward to it.

You're not the only labour voter in the constituency are you? ';)

That's the fun of it though Mavis, respecting each other's views and, unlike our political leaders, not being personal.

I always think when the arguments resort to personal attacks they're lost. Mind you I just can't help being slightly personal about Jim Murphy... :)

Oh RA, erm... the live chat isn't the heavy stuff, it's just fun. We leave the analysis to the pundits.

We just contribute a little light-hearted banter to pass the time, although most will be reporting results when they know them.

subrosa said...

That's not to say I don't agree with your post RA. I do.

Horrid to relate my best friend is the constituency's only Labour voter. Eeeek. I suggested that for the sake of all us she vote SNP...that didn't go down very well! I even got desperate enough to suggest Lib Dem. And I won't go into her connection with a certain J Murphy...
*Mave, last seen charging over the horizon eeeking madly*

Why am I not invited to this party in your sitoorie? I'll bet you invited that lothario Conan.

subrosa said...

Mave, I have one here too. She's an intelligent woman yet votes labour and none of us can understand it.

Thankfully she doesn't have any connection with a certain Mr Murphy. Then again perhaps she's too ashamed to tell us. :)

Auch Brownlie, of course you're invited. It goes without saying.

I don't know if Conan's sitting on grandchildren and may be unable to attend.
