Brown to Resurface for Scottish Elections

It's rumoured Gordon Brown has asked to be given a role in the Labour party's Holyrood campaign for the Scottish Parliament elections next year.

The leader of Labour's MSPs in the Scottish Parliament, Iain Gray, says that Brown's offer, in an unsolicited letter, has been taken up by the party as it begins its attempt to unseat Alex Salmond by this time next year.

I thought Mr Brown was going to spend his spare time undertaking charity work. Campaigning for the labour party could, I suppose, be loosely interpreted as such.

Tom Brown, Mr Brown's old school pal, believes that Gordon wants one of the world's most important economic jobs as head of the International Monetary Fund. IMK insiders are thought to consider the former PM the ideal candidate to take over when France's Dominique Strauss-Kahn's term ends in 2012. Internationally his reputation remains intact and he is admired for the way he tackled the global banking crisis. An IMF source said: "He is very well regarded."

Jobs for the boys right enough. Of course Gordon Brown is 'well regarded' by the IMF - he saved the jobs of his banking friends. The article does mention that David Cameron may try to veto the appointment though as he accuses Brown of creating Britain's economic mess.

I wonder how Brown will do in a purely Scottish context. There was some conjecture that he gained in popularity in his own backyard during the general election by being unpopular with the English. Be interesting to see if his reputation as a Jonah passes on to the Labour party during the Scottish Parliament elections.

"Brown...resurfacing..."

Says it all really.

Remember to pull the chain.

One does wonder!
Is there anything to stop him standing for a seat in the Scottish Parliament, is that the game plan?

But he did! Fact.

c.f. How much we owed before he took the purse-strings; and, how much we owe now.

I think the blogosphere needs to work hard to discredit this awful man & his complete LACK of economic sense - plus his complete pack of lies about the financial crisis here in the UK.

Very true QM. You have the labour electorate to a tee.

Messiah, he's revered in parts of Scotland because of his 'credits'. Shame on Scotland, we can manage without credits if we have a government with clout.

Apogee, I think the Scottish government is rather 'below' him. After all he never spoke to it.

Joe, I missed that! Do let us know when it was barred.

Ruth, that's hard to outwith the UK because most of Europe and many parts of the world thought his ideas were wonderful.

They played right into the hands of the rich and powerful.

I haven't been keeping up with the current Westminster Parliament so does anyone know if Brown has turned up in the current parliament yet to sit on the back benches?

He had a week long sulk and disappearing act after the SNP won the 2007 Scottish elections so with any luck losing his job as PM and Leader of the Labour party will mean he might not surface for the next year.

'After all he never spoke to it.'

Not after Salmond took over and ge couldn't pull the strings anymore.

Remember this man is Richard Nixon without the charm. Remember that Vice-President Nixon, after losing the 1960 US presidential election, went on to run for governor of California, his home state, in 1962
Brown regards Scotland as his home state, 'his' in the sense of 'his' to do with as he pleases.

Remember that Vlad the Impaler, after being deposed, used to impale whatever small animals he could catch in his prison cell.

I wouldn't put anything past Brown.

There have been no reports of him being present on the back benches Doug, not that I know of anyway.

He'll surface, believe me. The man's the proverbial bad penny. Just like his policies when in power.

Jim I'm going to keep your comment for the election nest year. It's too accurate.

Aye Rosy. 'Charity Work' my arse. He will not give up on any opportunity, however reduced in scale, to revel in the wreaking of destruction.

Evil incarnate.

Of course (warms to theme) they shade into each other. Some say that Putin is evil - there was that polonium episode, to suggest but one.

Some say though that Putin is riding a tiger and he needs to show steel to what some of us might think to be a murderous degree to placate his people's sense of being diminished in the world. Because the alternative might be much worse. And the Russians are a great people.

Whatever the truth or morality of any of that, Brown was never riding a tiger. Brown was, and could be again, a tapeworm in the gut of a lion.
