Check Out The Unreality.
I'm an Oldrightie because I have earned the right through experience and life in general. I have perused a few of Clegg's promises. So much for promising that which you cannot hope to deliver. Cameron and Osborne seem like elder statesman in this when compared to the mish- mash of a yellow manifesto that draws from the other two documents by Labour and The Tories. There can be little doubt a coalition shopping list is already drawn up and Clegg will hold a pistol to Labours' head which Snotty will jump at as high as requested to hold the trappings of power. The euro would be one of the first moves, nuclear power the next and joining a Pan-European police and military very close behind. Just check out the facts of their manifesto, scary!!
We will not waste taxpayer subsidies on nuclear
power and we will block any plans for dirty coal power stations.
A zero-carbon Britain – We are the first party to aim for a carbon neutral Britain so we
don't contribute at all to global warming - making the British economy carbon neutral
overall by 2050, reducing carbon emissions in the UK by over 40% of 1990 levels by 2020
as a step on the way.
Share the security burden through more defence co-operation with allies – European
countries need to work together more effectively on defence and security. There are huge
savings to be made by buying in bulk and sharing military assets. With the defence budget
under terrible strain, it would be irresponsible not to do this.
The Euro – Liberal Democrats believe that it is in Britain’s long-term interest to be part of
the Euro.
Vote Yellow get Brown.

I would go further and say the Libdems are more left than labour.
OldRightie clearly isn't a fan of the SNP, who have successfully blocked nuclear power, are on track to a zero carbon Scotland by 2050, reducing emissions by 40% by 2020 (a global commitment anyway), agree with shared security in Europe and intends to hold a referendum on the Euro.
They also use Yellow as a party colour.
Clegg has some good policies. On Trident he's right. Ditto Euro, we will eventually go in regardless of who is in power. The EU has been a huge success; 65 war free years in Western Europe and free movement for work.
I'm voting SNP obviously, but if I was in England I'd vote LD. They also opposed Iraq to their credit.
Hythlodaeus;
Hi, buddy, I'm a staunch unionist but have much respect for The SNP. Particularly if they shove Labours' failures into the public eye!
Hi Irene, it would be interesting to know why you think that. Can you explain?
Strathturret, I'm not sure libdem politics are my EU politics by any margin of error.
I agree about their continual opposition to Iraq yet they'e said nothing about the mess of Afghanistan.
Or thanks for the post. Much appreciated.
I do wish the SNP could shove more of labour's failures into the public eye but the media refuse. A unionist ply of course.
Hythlodaeus, OldRightie is a staunch unionist as many of my readers know. He is a disillusioned tory.
Also he gains his knowledge about Scottish politics from the likes of our blogs.
The SNP don't use 'yellow' they use a mix of green and yellow. If you care I will find the pantone number for you. It is quite different from the liberal yellow.
As you know I'm not pro the SNP's desperation to belong to the EU or join the euro. I do hope we have an open and honest debate about these issues here in Scotland before our own election next year.
If we don't then, if my peer group are anything to go by, the SNP will come off badly. My generation are the ones who can be relied upon to vote so we matter - although we don't in the present GE. We've had out pensions stolen and our savings reduced as the interest received wouldn't buy a bus fare.
Vote lib dems get Labour........great aint it whoopee..doo
and we Gerrymander the electoral system to ensure the Conservatives never ever gain power........great aint it whoopee..doo
Bet Ole Cameron rues the day he agreed to the Debates as big a mistake as ratting out of the Lisbon referendum
I would suggest we steer well clear of the Euro. Morgan Stanley are suggesting that the stronger EU countries may pull out of the Euro and set up an alternative currency.
I've also had this, in confidence, from someone close to me who works for a worldwide investment company as a senior business analysist.
Any idiot party which tries to insist Britain will be "Carbon Neutral" will bankrupt this country.
The wealth-creating sector (i.e. Industry & Commerce) is already lumbered with investing (i.e. wasting) £billions in 'green' projects that have no realistic payback period.
Photo-voltaics take 20 - 40 years to payback, yet won't last 15 years.
Wind energy can't deliver when it's needed most.
The Taxpayer pays massive subsidies for private individuals to sell back to Power companies the power that they themselves can generate at 1/5th cost.
Biomass fuels use a significant amount of (transportation)energy to get them from the (remote) forest to the boiler room.
"A zero-carbon Britain – We are the first party to aim for a carbon neutral Britain so we
don't contribute at all to global warming - making the British economy carbon neutral"
Impossible under any stretch of the imagination. It will be interesting to hear how he plans to achieve this.
@Strathturret
The EU has been a huge success; 65 war free years in Western Europe and free movement for work.
And what were NATO and the US doing in those so-called war free years? Twiddling their thumbs? And what did the EU do in Yugoslavia before the US and NATO stepped in with their air-strikes? What did the Dutch do in Srebrenica?
Why don't all EU countries recognise Kosova where the EU is empire-building as fast as it can (and using my taxes)?
Why can't I work in the EU, where my job is ring-fenced to native-born applicants when my job in the UK is open to any EU applicant regardless of their ability to speak English?
I'm old enough to smile when I hear rubbish, but on this occasion...
I wouldn't worry about membership of the Euro zone SB as that will be put to the Scottish people once we can remove the rusting shackles imprissoning us in an unfair marriage.
The Euro is doomed as is the Dollar and Sterling as they are all based on thin air and once the Goldman Sachs fraud envelopes the UK as compliciant benefactors of this illegal practice sparks will start to fly in all directions.
Did Goldman Sachs Commit Fraud?
Now that is interesting info FE. Haven't picked up on that.
I can't disagree with any of your points Joe.
It's very worrying that politicians continue to bang the drum about 'green-ness'.
It's certainly one policy which needs to be put under the spotlight CH.
Don't think Dave will rue them as much as your pal will at the end of the three.
Like you John, I disagree the EU has been a success.
I mean, what organisation can be called a success when it can't even get its accounts officially approved.
Many thanks for the link CH.
The EU was set up to stop the Germans and French falling out. Two World Wars and how many dead?
It has worked. Nato was about countering the USSR.
The EC was set up for that Strathturret. Problem is power and money helped those involved want more of the same.
I've taken Old Rightie's observations further.
Good post Stewart. I'm sure OR will be over to read it.
