Thanks so much for the link Rightwinggit. Pity I couldn't attach the song to the post, but I don't have the knowledge to do that.

Re the song I posted it some 3 years ago. It's a song that has haunted be me for some years. My post is here You should beable to copy the embed code from it.
Heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives! You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.

Afghanistan is also "forgotten" sad to say.

Many thanks Fitaloon. I do appreciate that.

Yes OR. It was rather lightly discussed on Sky this morning too.

What is it with politicians that they won't speak up about it? I expected Alex Salmond to do so as his speciality is history.

Let's not forget "No Man's Land" - aka "The Green Fields of France". I first heard this getting sloshed at what was "l'Attache" and has now disappeared under the "Rutland Hotel".

Thanks very much for that SE. I've never heard that before.

I'll keep that.

We once discovered an Anzac military cemetery in the Nee Forest. There will have been a service there to mark the day.

That's meant to be New Forest.

I knew what you meant Mrs R. I'd like to think the local people looked after the cemetery. In lots of cases they fall into disrepair.

Haven't been down that way for some years, but if I am I'll certainly make a point of stopping to pay my respects.

We really have no idea the amount who have fought for our freedom only for today's politicians to give it away.

It was immaculate. The graves and 'Lest we forget' memorial are maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, but there were fresh floral tributes too.

That's good to know Mrs R. Doesn't the Commonwealth War Graves Commission do a quiet and wonderful job?
