Jim Murphy gets the Photoshop Treatment

Remember Gordon Brown's vindictive attacks on David Cameron for 'airbrushing' his election poster?

Well now we have Jim Murphy, the Scottish Secretary, having a go. The above picture was taken at a Labour student event at Strathclyde University in Glasgow in February.

A spokesman for Mr Murphy admitted the picture had been 'improved' to spruce up his looks.

"In the original picture, taken by a student, his face was so dark he looked like a member of the Addams Family, so we had to do something. But it is not a case of the picture being faked. He was at the event. It was just edited and improved to give it a lighter look."

I'm no expert on Photoshop, but to my ignorant eye Mr Murphy certainly looks doctored. In fact he looks ill. Is that associated with the crease across his chest?

If this is any improvement on his usual photogenicity I struggle to see it. Will I bother finding my glasses? Auch no. Now that I'm aware Mr Murphy wishes to deceive me by altering a photograph tells me more than I want to know about the man.

I thought that Photoshop was a sophisticated tool that enabled you to enhance and improve pictures. That picture looks like someone has cut out Mr Murphy’s face from somewhere else and stuck it on with bostick.

Ye're right SR, Mr Murphy looks like Death-warmed-up. But then, so dae the poor wee souls standin' next tae him, just as if he had sucked the life oot o' them.

If he has that effect on youngsters, then he's no gettin' tae stand near me. Ma heart couldnae take it.

I confess, I'm a fraud too, all my pictures weren't photoshopped at all, they're all genuine. Honest Guv.

I'm sure you're about right Tris. I used the term Photoshop not quite literally. As I use a Mac I don't know the names of other 'enchancing' software.

I wonder if these are Scottish students and if anyone has explained to them that there is no such thing as a Scottish Labour party abd that it is in fact an English-funded party. Cannot see Labour telling them unless they are English students as I would doubt Labour would attract many young Scottish people nowadays.

I would doubt that wouldn't you Billy?

Don't have a clue RA, but I don't think he's musical. He made a dreadful job of blowing his own trumpet on STV last night.
