Update: National Security Surrey Heath Style

Remember the post in which I informed you that the Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey Bengali Welfare Association had applied to Surrey Heath Council to demolish the above listed Victorian school and build a large mosque which would overlook the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst? If you don't the story is here.

The final planning decision has now been made and the plans have been thrown out on a 'technicality'.

According to the BBC 'The association argued that the building no longer met the needs of the growing local Muslim community and people wanted to worship in a mosque and not a school.'

As far as I'm aware this attractive building has not been a school for some years. Why did they buy it in the first place if they felt that way?

Nigel Farage, the UKIP MEP for the South East, described the full council's decision as, "The right result for the people of Camberley.

"The initial planning application should have been thrown out as the building in question is listed and is sited in a conservation area.

"This was never about religion, but about the fair and just process that applies to everyone no matter what faith or belief."

Exactly.

I am outraged at the lack of cultural sensitivity demonstrated by this decision. The sacrifice of our culture and history is surely a small price to pay for community cohesion? I am sure that the fact the proposed mosque overlooked Sandhurst, and that minarets symbolize dominance over the surrounding land, was never a consideration in the choice of this location.

Naldo must be raging!

Hi there Scunnert.I agree.
Read what you say,and understand exactly what you are saying. And also what the article is saying.I know I am being picky here, but your first two sentences could all too easily be taken out of context to seem to give whole hearted support to this project.
This is a political/religious organisation, Islam, as they have admitted, and should be treated accordingly. Also, security is our business in our country.

Aye Apogee, our security is our business. Don't you think all religions are political? Islam is just more highly organised than most.

I think you'll find that Islam is far more political than any other religion I can think of -

Thanks for the link Jock. Yes I would agree with you but over the centuries religion always involved in politics. The problem is Christianity has reduced in this country and there is space for another strong religion.

Indeed Apogee - I was affecting a pc response to the article. I have pointed out many times to apologists for Islam who view me as a racist that Islam is not an ethnic identity but an ideology more closely resembling communism or fascism than a religion. Opposition to this ideology is growing as people understand its true character and intentions. We must be ever vigilant.
