A New Political Party

A new political party is being launched today at Westminster. The name is Trust and the person at the heart of it is Stuart Wheeler, a past major donator to Tory coffers and latterly a contributor to UKIP. Their idea is to stand against those MPs who were caught out in the expenses scandal.

The strange thing is they'd decided to field two candidates - one in Bexhill and Battle and one in Perth and North Perthshire.

My MP is Pete Wishart, SNP, and he never fiddled his expenses. Presently he represents Perth and North Pethshire. He didn't flip houses, gain profit from selling property or claim for anything untoward and is an honourable person.

I think Trust should think again about standing in Perth and North Perthshire. It's a waste of good money which could be far better spent in some current labour constituencies. Then again, perhaps Trust's candidate doesn't want to stand against labour for reasons of their own.

They should have received my email by now - well they did ask for feedback! Do we need another unionist party in Scotland? I think not.

The millionaire MP for Bexhill and Battle is another entity altogether. Mr Greg Barker seems to have made a very handsome profit from the taxpayer.

Great Pork Pie poster though.

See their website. Their ad was on the ukpollingreport website earlier.

For every party that materialises, someone will vote Labour again.

Don't get the pork pie relevance Marvo but then I'm thicker than normal this morning as it's cold.

As a friend said to me "another vanity project" which it is.

On the main trustparty.co.uk page, on the right, there's a picture. It changes. Refresh the page a couple of times and you get the pork pie one.

I suspect this may well be another Flash-in-the-Pan party which only serves to split votes from the Tories.

It's telling that other similar parties, both in Scotland and the rest of the UK, are fighting elections in groups now, having tried standing on their own.

Seems a bit odd to me. A party set up to stand against corrupt MPs and 50% of their candidates are standing against uncorrupt MPs.... err duh....

So who will gain from this "party" standing in Perth and North Perthshire. Would it be... the labour party?
And a political party naming itself "Trust" ? After the last three years? They're havin' a larf !! Well the voters will !!

Certainly a waste of money anyone standing against Pete Wishart on the expenses business Tris.

Do you think this is a group Hythlodaeus? It's well enough funded to stand alone I think but to have only two candidates and one in an area where the MSP and MP's aren't involved in fraud is strange.

The person standing in Perth and N Perthshire who was the Tory candidate in 2005 and a bit miffed he didn't get the nomination again. Could it be that is the reason he is standing?

This will give Pete Wishart more votes and I would say Lyburn will fall again.

It was a close thing at the last election because this area has always been tory - dyed in the wool stuff, yet Pete Wishart got through.

In my opinion there's so little between the SNP and the tories (other than the SNP are making a good job of running the Scottish government and the fact they deplored the Iraq and Afghanistan war) that it will be a fight for Pete.

He's up to it.

Must say voteinscotland, that I've had a tory councillor for some years now and never had any form of communication from her. Time I changed that.

I meant to say but didn't make my self clear that the Trust candidate this time was the Tory candidate in 2005. A bit of being miffed I would reckoned and the Lyburn farming folk are not that popular in parts of the seat.

He's certainly not popular in east Perthshire voterinscotland and that's a prime farming area.

Seems like he couldn't make it with the tories so now he's changed tack.

Why's a Dundee wifie votin' in Perth & North Perthshire? Have you been hiding something from us SR? Have you abandoned your roots like I did?

Aye Jock, when I returned to Scotland I decided to live near work and that was in Perth.

To be honest Dundee just doesn't appeal to me really these days. The atmosphere I remember as a youngster's gone and so has much of the heart of the city.

I do visit though but parking's a nightmare compared with Perth.
