Labour's Proposal Will Cause More Poverty in Scotland

Not much, if anything, has been written in the MSM about Labour's plans to scrap Disability Living Allowance for the over 65s and Attendance Allowance across the UK - in order to fund a new care service for England.

John Mason, MP for Glasgow North East, warned that the proposal would impact on 145,000 elderly people in Scotland, push 58,000 vulnerable Scots into poverty and adversely affect carers looking after those in receipt of the allowances.

"Labour's plans ignore Scotland completely. This proposal is entirely focussed on England with no attention paid to the consequences in Scotland.

"Attendance Allowance offers essential support to many of Scotland's elderly and disabled residents and helps Scotland's carers. To get rid of this valuable benefit would be a hammer blow to elderly and disabled Scots."

The SNP, at their Spring Conference, passed a resolution condemning the Labour proposals.

I know several people over 65 who receive attendance allowance. They all look after disabled spouses. Three of them would suffer badly should the allowance be withdrawn because it makes such a difference to their lives in small, but important, ways. Surely this is age discrimination?

We must all fight this proposal because our elderly deserve recognition for the work they undertake. Without them our health services would be stretched beyond their limits.

Just in case any of you missed it Brian Taylor has posted about George Osborne's suggestion that further cuts in the Scottish spending package for 2010/11 could be deferred. Not cancelled but postponed.

I know a lady in her late 60s who gets some Disability Living Allowance. It makes a huge difference to her life.

She's a Labour voter.

Or at least she was.

The Party of the Poor (Banker)

There are so many other ways they can be saving money (free abortions for East Europeans for example) or making all those lobbying MP's give back those bribes they took.

They are punishing people who have paid into the system as an insurance, a safety net. Attendance allowance is not a huge amount but it makes a huge difference to those that need it.

Labour don't give a shit about the grey or white vote. Their votes have been imported, bribed and paid for from tax payers money.

Why aren't we looking after our own first? I'm livid.

I'm livid too Sue. Why doesn't the MSM pick up on this?

The tories or libdems haven't said a word either.

Well many of Labour's proposals, actions & Laws have certainly caused poverty in England (& Wales & NI).

subrosa said...

Yes I know Joe and it's up to the folk who live their to fight their corners.

Hi SR
Sue is right. they have gone one better than massaging the postal vote and imported the actual voter. And its perfectly legal, immoral, amoral, but legal. Uncle Joe Stalin knew how to deal with them.
