Another Soldier Killed

A British soldiers from 3rd Battalion The RIFLES, serving with 3 RIFLES Battle Group, has been killed this afternoon in Afghanistan.

He was on patrol at the time and had been providing protection for soldiers who had just deactivated an unexploded insurgent bomb when the attack happened.

The bomb had been successfully dealt with and the 3 RIFLES soldiers had continued on their foot patrol when a suicide bomber in a car detonated himself near them.

The death toll of our armed services in Afghanistan is now 278.

According to the MoD website there have been 3,115 aeromedical evacuations for UK military and civilian personnel injured or ill in Afghanistan between 1 January 2006 and 15 February 2010. That's over 3,000 people who required further treatment in the UK.
