What Is Happening in England?

Must confess I missed the fact that northern France have secured their latest Olympic contract by claiming to be the part of southern England the British have forgotten.

The civic leader of Pas-de-Calais, Dominique Dupilet, said: "I consider that we are the south of England and because we're the south of England it's normal that we would associate ourselves with this extraordinary event."

Considering the amount of English who visit to strip his supermarkets of cheap booze, I can understand M Dupilet's stance. The problem I see is that the good Monsieur's history is slightly out of date.

More worrying, if it is true and who am I to doubt the NoW, Gordon Brown plans to sell off Dover. The lovely blogger Tory Tottie first posted about this but if you haven't read her wonderfully emotional post then you can read the government is being advised by Rothchilds who say, "This is an exciting sale. Selling Dover to Calais is a very logical move as that is where most of the business is directed.

"Dover made an operating profit of £15.1 million in 2008. Now it is seeking £400m to expand, as it anticipates a doubling in freight traffic by 2040."

The PPC for Dover has expressed his outrage, but the article says the government is strapped for cash.

Less than 10 years ago I would have thought this an April Fool but I've learned, thanks to labour, to be a cynic and realise there really is no smoke without fire.

Calais oddly enough was handed over to Philip of Spain as part of Queen (Bloody) Mary's dowry. As the marriage was never consummated, technically it should have reverted back to being part of England. However then we had this silly armada thing to deal with and so we never quite got around to getting it back.

As for a Scottish MP who is currently the UK's prime minister selling off parts of England, well the less said the better as I'm a civilised guy and my language were I to start would get a little choice........

We will not enter into who first posted about Brown flogging off Dover as I would be guilty of digressing........

England? What country is that? Does it exist? Unlike Scotland and Wales it is not on any EU map!

Pray tell...............

Oh yes, England the country that provides a wodge of cash to Scotland.....

Only joking SR! Still friends??????

Who cares!

@ Strathturret, well the English care.

I can just imagine the howls from North of the Border were Brown to announce he were selling off Edinburgh Castle, or the Wallace memorial to pay off the UK's debt.

Strathturret said...

Well do something about it!

It sounds like an anti EU phoney story to me.

subrosa,

I did a rather tongue in cheek blog some time ago about Brown selling Buck House and when I first saw this about selling Dover I really thought it was something along the same lines!

All together now "There'll be French Flags over the White Cliffs of Dover" - you're too young to remember that song, subrosa?

Can we not sell Brown instead? Must be some where there are slavers who would take him? Maybe as a loss leader?

But being serious for a minute, I seem to remember a similar idea being floated before, in the 80's I think?

@ "Strathturret said ... Who cares!"

Plenty care, and so would you if you lived in or near Dover, or were employed at the port. If you're lucky you're far enough away for it not to affect you, yet, but imagine how you would feel if government announced it was selling off the Port of Aberdeen to the highest bidder.

This isn't a joke or a phoney story - the sales were outlined last year

http://news.scotsman.com/latestnews/Brown-attacks-Tory-spending-cut.5725337.jp

"Some £3 billion of assets are planned to be sold off over the next two years – including the Dartford crossing, the Channel Tunnel rail link, and the Student Loan book. Much of the rest of the funds will be realised by encouraging local authorities to exchange assets for cash."

Bless you for your kind words.

Unspeakably evil, is how I'd describe Gordon Brown. His heinous acts of treachery will come back to haunt him in history.

It's unbelievable any British PM would sell off pieces of the UK QM far less a Scotsman bits of England, so I do understand your feelings.

Hi WFW, yes I know a few posted on this before me. I was waiting for some help with the video which wouldn't work.

I'm in the process of doing another post on a similar subject.

Of course we're friends WFW and we'll still be friends when we're independent. :)

Ouch Strathturret. :)

subrosa said...

Brownlie, ah so it was you! I've racked my brains to remember where I read that.

Of course I'm too young to remember that song! I become younger every day.

subrosa said...

Aye Apogee there has been something similar but little written evidence I could find.

subrosa said...

The government has been very quiet about this today Mrs R. Not a word anywhere, which makes me think there is some truth in it.

subrosa said...

TT, sorry I forgot to put a link to you. I'll do it right now.

This one's also 'old news'
http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/health/article3671292.ece

I read somewhere about local tax offices being sold off to 'rationalise the estate' and improve efficiency, but I can't find it now.

subrosa said...

Thanks for the link Mrs R. If my memory serves me correctly I think some London hospitals have been sold off.

Also I agree with you about tax offices being sold off and of course 'old' post office buildings.

There's seldom any word in the MSM about these things though is there? It's usually be default I learn they've happened.

it doesn't really matter which party forms the government as it has been decided by those with power to sell off everything that can turn a profit. The UK is in terminal decline while England is a footnote in history. Scotland will go the same way as all our main parties are playing the same game. This includes the SNP.

True Scunnert. Earlier I saw the tail end of an interview Blair gave in the US. He praised the US highly and the end was something like 'I'm much happier being associated with people who are on the up than with somewhere where people are on the down'. Not exactly his words but the meaning was clear.

Whacking great chunks of Region 9, sorry - Scotland, have been 'bought' and 'owned' by a variety of non-indigenous people for centuries including for example English, Dutch and an Egyptian thrown in for good measure. Hats off to the fiesty crofter associations for reclaiming small areas. I sometimes wonder if we shouldn't just rename the UK, Tescovia, and have done with it all.

subrosa said...

Oh No! Not Tescovia! Even Region 9 sounds better than that. :)

Region 9. How about that? The very label conjures up thoughts of controlling and incompetent governments.

Port of Dover, Heathrow, North Sea Oil; what's the difference when, as either resource or asset, they can be sold off to meet the interest charges of debt created by, borrowed from and profited by, the bandits of global manipulation.

We should all have realised by now the aim of privatisation is to socialise the costs in order to privatise profits and control the markets by monopolistic means in order to protect and maximise these profits.

It would seem, while the exploitation is abundantly clear to just about every consumer in the country, that governments are either blind to its effects - which makes them fools. Or, more likely, in collusion which makes the State a tyrant against its own people and the people fools for allowing such a state of affairs to continue.

Westminster is too steeped in tradition, restricted in choice and, truth be told, frightened to really adopt change.

Scotland through three hundred years of subsidiarity has had its establishment leeched of its powers. And were it not for the despondency created by a manipulated addiction to unionism, it has the choice. All that's needed is the courage to overcome the fear and the vision to discard empty posturing.

Thanks for your comment RA. Many will echo your opinion I'm sure.
