Is This the Next President of the USA?

Very little has been reported in the UK regarding Sarah Palin's address to the Tea Party activists last week.

The American press has covered it well and suggest this is the Republican's first step back on the campaign trail.

Her speech drew more than 240 journalists from around the world and an additional guests who paid $348 to hear her speak.

Mrs Palin could show our political parties a thing or two when it comes to fundraising. Her political action committee collected $1.4 million last year, the vast majority of it raised after she resigned as governor.

All Seeing Eye has his take on Mrs Palin.

Who said sex can't sell politics? Love her or hate her, she has 'appeal' and I dont just mean from a sex angle. She tells it as she sees it - something our politicos could learn from!

She has a naturalism about her you seldom see I think WFW. She conveys a 'what you see is what you get' image.

I certainly hope not Subrosa. She'd end up dragging us into wars that make Afganistan and Iraq look like a skirmish.

Dictionary definition of "hawkish".

Mmmmm - not sure on this one Sb! I WANT to like her. .but she's a bit ditzy for my liking! Vocally she's irritating as hell . . and all that writing on the hand stiff! :-(
Personally I believe the mantle of the first female US president should have gone/should go to Hilary. She's done her apprenticeship - she's capable and deserves it. (Yes I know - even tho she's a Dem ;-)

Gaby hinsliff had this to say when commenting about "Tears for Piers"

There’s real value in understanding how a politician’s past experiences shaped the person he or she is today, but not to the point where it dominates everything else – or the logical consequence is a Sarah Palin, a juicy biography in search of a policy.

Seems about right

You mean she'll continue to have wars Hythlodaeus because that's the plans for the future for this country. We'll be at war with someone or other for generations to come. Iran's next on the cards.

subrosa said...

She certainly has confidence I'll say that OR.

The ditzy bit is an act I think TT. She's a loose canon this woman, even though I admire her for her gaul.

Yes, I think Hilary would have done better than Obummer. She looks tired these days though, I don't know if it's the job or she's not happy.

Could be quite a dangerous juicy biography FL.

SR: Danny, 1st Earl of the Ozarks, and political guru mate of mine from America did a guest post on Munguin's Republic about her, and the Tea Baggers a few days ago....

It's, like all Danny's stuff, really knowlegable well written stuff (a nice change from the usual rubbish on the Republic, some would say :¬)>>>)

Hi SR.
you look at her,you get a feeling of honesty, she means what she says, and she can make a decision, get it right!Governor of Alaska for two and a half years with no disasters!
Hillary by comparison, is a creature of the party, don't see her as having any more relevant experience, but she is a democrat, with all that means.
A lot of Americans like Sarah Palin, a person you would not feel uncomfortable with, I think empathy is the word I am looking for, not sure of too many politicians this could be said about over here!
Speaking of experience, what did Obama have?

You don't have to stretch the imagination excessively to imagine this creationist unleashing Armageddon against the Middle East because her god had whispered in her ear....

Hi Tris, I did read Danny's post at your place and it was excellent.

Your blog is always quality, you should read some I occasionally do - mind you they're just fun.

subrosa said...

Yes, people like her Danny and she's not afraid to make a mistake. That's perhaps the problem for me, she's slightly too hill-billy.

What did obummer have? With the exception of the obvious I pass.

subrosa said...

The religion bit does disturb me a little Jayce. Mind you, Iran's on the cards regardless who's in power in the US.

subrosa said...

I don't have an answer to that one, sorry Dean.

With Palin you see another American Idiot politician and thats what you get another American Idiot politician.

She has the common touch(ha ha) they said that about Bush.
No doubt her favorite Philosopher is Jesus.

Niko, I agree her religious behaviour makes me rather uncomfortable.

Strathturret said...

Subrosa, she is stupid. Yes I know George W Bush was too and see where he took us.

I'd be much more comfortable with an atheist as US president.

subrosa said...

It appears from opinion that most people think that Strathturret. Her religious beliefs are her downfall - except with the section of society who share her obsession (I can't think of any other word).

Strathturret said...

I think the USA is one of the most Christian countries in the world.

I must have missed the bit in Sunday School when we were told that bombing your enemies was okay!

subrosa said...

I was taught the opposite Strathturret. Than again WW2 was still very much in the mind everywhere.

Palin will do for America what Thatcher did for Britain.

Not just in politics, where god knows there's so little of quality, choice and competence are not real factors. But in the equality of the sex's she'll retard it to the 19th Century.

Best quip I've heard came from one of her fund raising dinners.
She announced she had just finished her first book (meaning wrote and getting a plug in)

Quip from the audience,"Oh well done; I'm a slow reader myself."

Crinkly & Ragged Arsed Philosophers said...

Just thought I'd add.
Given the quality of leadership candidates throughout the world, perhaps it's time for the worlds sanity and safety that each and every potential candidate has to be independently rated for IQ and psychoanalysed and the results made known to the public.

I know they'd still cheat and distort; but at least it might prove a barrier for the real fruitcakes.

Might even add a new definition to mental disorders - pathological politicopaths.

subrosa said...

I don't think Thatcher destroyed the equality of the sexes RA, quite the contrary. That was my era and she made women feel they could do anything and not be restrained by male-dominated jobs etc.

As for Palin, love the put-down. :)

I've always thought candidates should be tested in some way and the standard psychoanalysis testing, done for more job interviews these days, may divulge some interesting results.

They should also perhaps sign something to say 'no mental health issues'. Bit like the BUPA application 'should you not have declared any illness/affliction/disease which you had prior to joining...'

Hey SR. I read nearly all your posts. Of course I don't always comment, usually because I've nothing of import to add.

As for Thatcher, I would have thought that she did real harm to women's prospects. The fact that she never promoted women beyong the very most junior ranks was very telling.

subrosa said...

Maybe tris, but as a career woman when Thatcher was at her height, I felt she promoted women in a quiet way. Never did I think she considered women should be inferior to men.

Strathturret said...

Thatcher liked to be surrounded by fawning men I think. A younger, more attractive woman who have outshone her.

Well that's my amateur psychology anyway!

subrosa said...

Auch Strathturret, that's always the way with women. The young always win out in the 'beauty' stakes.

Why isn't it the same with men in politics? Is it because men aren't mature enough while they're still good looking? :)

Anonymous said...

LOL, well I think we'll have to agree to disagree there SR. Of course she did talk women up, without promoting any, in that completely mad way she had. It was a bit like, "of course women are equal to any job... I just don't want any anywhere round my Cabinet table". Then again she only liked vegetables there didn't she.

It might have been of course that she didn't like the competition. They'd have been younger and curvier than she was.

But I see that his so-called good looks haven't done Milipede any harm with Mrs Clinton, so it's not always about women when it comes to looks. Same when Blair came along. I heard a few women commenting that he had a shapely bum.

It's a pity the rest of him didn't measure up to his arse.

he he...

subrosa said...

He he indeed Tris and which one of us is laughing all the way to the bank?

No, I don't think Thatcher damaged women in any way so we'll have to say quits. :)
