Cameron Crosses the Line

David Cameron entered the fray with his opinion of Nicola Sturgeon on Friday. He was speaking following his keynote speech at the one-day Scottish Conservatives conference in Perth.

"I wouldn't have written that letter and I think she has got some serious questions to answer." he said.

"It is right though that members of parliament are called upon to take up cases sometimes with people that your profoundly disagree with and you have to do that.

"I remember taking up the case of someone who was imprisoned overseas - of course you have to take up these cases, but I think you have to be careful in what you say and how far you go.

"I think in advising that there should not be a custodial sentence that does seem to me to cross a line, so having read the letter that she sent I must say there are some parts of it where she has some very big questions to answer."

This matter is completely one for the Scottish Parliament and nothing whatsoever to do with Westminster politicians.

Mr Cameron also said in his speech that he would introduce a working relationship with the Scottish government. Officially commenting on Scottish Parliament affairs is not the way to gain friends and influence people - quite the opposite.

Don't make yourself more unpopular in Scotland Mr Cameron, stick to non-devolved issues. If you don't have policies that will benefit to Scotland, which I doubt, then I suggest you keep your thoughts to yourself and allow the Scottish Parliament to resolve the matter by their own methods.

Interventions like these from Cameron will only lead to an increase in support for Nicola.

Yes it will Niko. He should keep his nose out of it, stupid man.

Being a party leader is not an easy job but some are better than others. In a discredited and socialist world of deceit and incompetence it is not a difficult bar to jump for anybody.

Good post.

However, we should miss no opportunity to point out distortions of the facts, and I feel you missed one in Cameron's "advising that there should not be a custodial sentence".

This is an untruth perpetuated in the media. Ms Sturgeon asked the court to consider alternatives to a custodial sentence - rather different, I think.

With nothing worthwhile to say & having to suffer a severe caning by Mr Salmond at FMQ's every week, I suspect Iain Grey's political opportunism will rebound on him now that we know that Joke McConnell intervened in a constituency case where 2 thugs threatened a nurse on duty at Wishaw General Hospital in 2003:

http://www.thefreelibrary.com/NATIONAL+LAMPOON%3B+First+Minister%27s+crime+crusade+is+descending+into...-a0108209196

Interestingly, it has been revealed that the father of one of these neds was a pal of Frank Roy who shared an office with none other than McConnell.

If it looks and smells like your typical Labour rotten burgh 'you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours' we can be sure it is.

Then there is the stench of Labour hypocrisy. If McConnell's intervention on behalf of a constituent was deemed kosher when Labour was in office, and we are to believe that his letter did not lead to the case being dropped against these delinquents, the inescapable conclusion must be that Iain Grey's attack on Nicola Sturgeon is nothing less than a deeply mendacious and cynical ploy to damage the SNP by smearing opponents and throwing mud in the hope that some sticks.

And folk wonder why the public have taken a scunner to politics?

We love David Cameron so much we have produced a Toryspotting t-shirt to help with his Scottish election campaign.

Tweedle dee and tweedle dum.

Take out the Eton toffs part Andrew and this T shirt would fit Labour just perfectly.

Silly move right enough DL. Surely his advisors should have told him.

Indeed OR, the standard of our politicians have fallen to an all time low. In my lifetime I've never know it but today's 'leaders' aren't interested in the country but themselves.

subrosa said...

Yes sorry Brownedov, I should have made that clear again. I thought it was clear in the post with the letter but you're right, I should have reiterated it.

He really doesn't understand us does he Tris?

England won CD but it wasn't an inspiring match was it.

Oh how I wish your statement came true!

subrosa said...

Thanks for the links TartanSeer, very much appreciated.

I don't remember this incident but now the record is there.

Thanks again.

Aye, most people have forgotten, thankfully we have the internet now to expose these chancers.

Of course, it does ask questions of the media, and in particular the Herald, which must have known of McConnell's actions but decided all the same to press ahead with a 'story' that had Labour's black op's hands all over it.

Perhaps explains the defensive editorial in today's Sunday Herald.

subrosa said...

It's a shame the Herald has gone in the direction it has in the past months TartanSeer. About a year ago I thought it was becoming more unbiased but now it's purely labour press releases.

TartanSeer said...

For sure.

I gave up buying the Herald a year or so ago, & am seriously cancelling my Sunday Herald subscription as well.

I can read their nonsense for nothing on-line!

No SR. Not a clue. If this is the respect he is going to give Scotland, he can take it back home to England with him and shove it.

TartanSeer, I bought the SoS for years from its inception. It's been around 4 years since I regularly bought a paper. Think the last one I did buy was the Telegraph when it had the magazine-styled listing of MPs expenses. That would have been around beginning of June last year.

Tris I've just watched his interview on The Politics Show. He should have told Glen Campbell it was none of his business and he wasn't answering.

Crinkly & Ragged Arsed Philosophers said...

Hi Rosa - what nothing on the G Brown
utterly blubbery depicable interview?

subrosa said...

Hi RA, do you really want me to post on the Brown/Morgan interview?

I seldom write if I can't be positive about at least one aspect of a subject you know.

Crinkly & Ragged Arsed Philosophers said...

Surely Rosa criticism can be positive. An there was me hoping you'd lead the way so I could add my spleen to the comments.

Now I'll have to admit I never watched it; but the trailer was enough to get me going.

While I wish no ill on his family or even, on a personal front, to the man himself, to use personal tragedy to garner political gain dubs him utterly despicable as a sentient being.

OK,feel better now.

I'd be hard-pressed to find something positive in it RA.

Your last sentence matches my thoughts exactly.

For me he lost all the dignity the post of PM should have. (terrible English there!)
