Beware of Mid Life Check

This past week, on local radio, I've heard a public service advertisement for 'The Mid Life Check'.

Out of curiousity I thought I'd have a look at midlifecheck.co.uk. Fine so far. It would seem that you enter details of your lifestyle and once the information is processed you will be given advice on how to improve it. That sounds ok.

Then I read the 'help':

What if [sic] will happen to my information?

All personal information is confidential. We can't use it and we don't forward it to anyone else. We may use general statistics or data to help us understand how people use the NHS LifeCheck service.

Ah! There's the catch. More data collection by government. They can't stop trying to gain personal information from us can they. Sadly, many will innocently log onto this site without realising their input is stored and may be used for other purposes.

Yet another 'I Spy' government programme.

It's too late for my 'mid life check'. I'm definitely past halfway.

Besides, all it will say is 'don't smoke, don't drink and don't eat as much salt and fat as you do or you'll be dead before you're 30'.

Which is fine because that was 20 years ago so it must have already happened. So I don't need to worry about it.

Therefore, there's no need for me to bother them. They can use the time they've saved to nag someone else.

Got this message when I tried the questions Subrosa: Sorry, there are too many people using NHS MidLifeCheck at the moment. Please try again later. It would seem they have plenty of takers.

Oh God - that's a shame! I nearly started it - when I read the rest of your post! I could really do with one of these - alas, I don't want to hand yet more of my private data over the Brown et al! :-( x

Ah, the next in the series, after the slightly worrying "Teen Life Check". I await the "Averagely Skilled But Fed Up Software Developer Thinking of Becoming a Chippy Life Check", a survey in which I shall take part in and lie my genitalia off with great glee ;-)

Is this the Scottish Health Service, or the English one?

Jings LI, I'm stuck at mid life. I think you're wise though not to have had a go.

Ah BigYin, I can well imagine. They're spending enough advertising it.

TT, I shall tell you. You need more exercise and should cut down on salt. Is that ok? xx

I didn't know there had been a previous one Corrugated. They're making sure they cover us all then.

Seems like a UK thing tris, although I never tried it.

The information you provide will probably be used by the actuaries to figure out when you are going to croak.....the old age pension fund is stuffed, they're just not sure if it's seriously stuffed or very seriously stuffed.

Now that's one good reason for this site. Well thought of muddypaws.

I don't mind sharing some details with The NHS in Scotand. Nicola is trying to make it better and if they need a wee bit of information from me, fair enough.

If it's that bloke from Labour in England they can go get knotted. He's a smarmy wee git, and I wouldn't help him if he was on fire.

I think it is generated by the Westminster government Tris, so possibly the smarmy wee git is involved.
