Afghanistan Troops Killed

Tragically another of our troops have been killed in Afghanistan. One was an airman from 11 Squadron Royal Air Force Regiment, part of the Kandahar Airfield Force Protection Wing and the other was a soldier from A Company, 4th Battalion The Rifles (4 RIFLES), part of the 3 RIFLES Battle Group.

The airman was part of a vehicle mounted patrol and died, on Wednesday, from wounds received as a result in an area north of Kandahar Airfield on Kandahar province.

The soldier was killed yesterday as a result of small arms fire near Sangin in Helmand province. He was on foot patrol, part of ongoing operations to protect the people of Sangin from insurgents, when his patrol was fired on.

May they both rest in peace.

These losses take the number of fallen in this Afghan war to 265. I will continue to call this a war because I believe it is - it is a political war and has nothing to do with the safety of our country. If any country's security was at risk why are politicians arranging for their own troops to be withdrawn?

Questions for the authorities.

What are the tallies of Taliban dead?

The total number of night patrols carried out in Helmund by the NATO forces?

I ask the first because the only thing worse than information fatigue is half information fatigue. It turns statistics related to life into a farce.

The second because the Afghanistan idiocy is an insurgency instigated by foreigners. In an insurgency the combatants who hold the night have the winning hand.

In Vietnam the Americans claimed they had night patrols; they never did.

Taliban death toll hasn't been officially announced RA. I don't have any information about it at all.

The night patrols are recorded of course. There are many blogs which give some details and military sites. I can give you some links if you like. As far as I can gather there is a great deal of activity 24 hours a day.
