Afghanistan - Another Loss

A soldier from 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards was killed today in Afghanistan.

He was serving as part of Combined Force Nahr-e-Saraj (South) [formerly known as Battle Group Babaji], and died from wounds received as a result of an explosion in the Babaji area of Nahr-e-Saraj in central Helmand.

He was involved in operations as part of Operation MOSHTARAK to clear insurgents to the south west of Patrol Base 4, so that a checkpoint could be built and a road laid through the area.

The death toll of our troops in this war now stands at 262.

SR,

I watched the 'homecoming' today and am still plagued by the question; Why?

Why are we there?

Sympathies to all the families involved.

WFW, I have no answer for you. All I can say is that it's certainly not to protect us on these islands.

It's all 'roadside bombs' etc etc. They seem to be sitting ducks.

This sadness goes on and on.

I'm not military stratagist, but I can't say I can see the least bit of logic in this latest push.

Surely the Taliban will allow the West their victory, and then, return when NATO withdraws...

That's exactly what will happen Tris but Brown wants to look good - hence the 'push'.
