Synopsis

Not enough time today for detailed posts as I've still mince pies to make while I worry about the pea and ham soup that's turned out far too salty, even though I soaked the ham shank, so here is a small selection of what caught my eye in the past few days.

Johnny Ball, the man who introduced science to generations of youngsters, disagrees with the climate change doom-mongers.

David Bellamy celebrates the failure of Copenhagen.

The mystery of Tony Blair's money solved.

The Libdems intend to fight the SNP bid to ban TV debate. They would of course, they're unionists and the boss is Westminster based.

Steve Richard has a great piece in the Independent 'Where have all the big beasts gone?' It's true what he says, with the exception of a couple, there are no prominent free-thinking politicians in today's Westminster.

Karl Denninger, the market-ticker, discusses the European Central Bank. He makes economics easy for me to understand.

This is one from the Sunday Observer - Henry Porter 'The horror of virtual courts is upon us'. Very worrying indeed and further disintegration of our justice system.

As I've been typing this I've decided the only way to resolve the salty soup is to soak more peas overnight and add them. Now I'll have enough pea and ham soap to last until New Year!

Oh Rosa, a fatty slice of ham shank, warm and dripping from the pot between two thick heels of plain breid...thanks for that memory:¬)

Can't you boil some potatoes with it...? that soaks up the salt. Or so my granny says.

Cooking is my new hobby since being sick and unable to get into the hills... I even made Cranberry Sauce the otehr day... quite nice too. It only cost about 10 times what Ocean Sray would have in Sainsbury .....

Oh well, there's worse things in life than having too much pea and ham soup SR, especially when there's a freezer.

Have you tried putting a potato in? Ot two - don't cut them up you are using them like a sponge they are supposed to absorb the salt but I don't think it works with too much salt.

SR,

tris is right - shove some tatties in the mix, it reduces the salt/spice content! Best way of 'cooling down' a too hot chilli.

Come on SR. you're a lass - you are supposed to know all this - without a mere male confirming it!

Ah Bless - so we do have our uses!

I find parsley counters a salty taste. It doesn't remove the salt, just makes it taste less salty.

Salt is good for you. Hardens the arteries.

Nobody likes floppy arteries.

Aye Conan, it's still liked here. Hard to get a good shank though.

Tried that Tris, no effect. It's just too salty. I'm now soaking another packet of peas and that'll double the volume. It ought to be fine then. Fingers crossed.

Great to hear you're into cooking. Auch there's a certain satisfaction in making your own sauces etc and I'm sure it'll taste much better than from a jar off a supermarket shelf.

Tried it Observer. I think I didn't soak the shank long enough before cooking but I really wanted the soup for tonight. Also it wasn't a smoked one and maybe that's made a difference.

WfW, I've had about 5lbs of tatties in the pot with no effect. :( Was the first thing I did.

But I do welcome your assistance - for a male yer no' bad. :)

I've stopped laughing now LI. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Happy Christmas to the entire SUBROSA team. There will be plenty of battles ahead in the New Year.

Many thanks Nickie, that's most kind of you. I think some of my team are already celebrating. :)

May I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year and hope we're then refreshed enough to continue the fight.

Good to see David Bellamy raising his head again, hope he realises how much support he has since he was deopped by the Beeb for AWG denialiasm.
Fascinting read in The Guradian, of all places, about Tonys tax avoidance techniques. One commenter says
"Windrush must be reminiscent of the asinine Ian Carmichael character Stanley Windrush in the 1959 film comedy I'm All Right Jack."
I'm All Right Jack indeed. 'Windrush' was the also name of a passenger ship that came to epitomise West Indian Migration in the 1960's; what's that all about?

Hope you enjoy the soup.

Aye banned, Blair's cash revelations are something else.

Once I added the other packet of soaked peas the soup was great. I've also enough to last until next Christmas. :)
