How Much More of This Can We Tolerate?

The above is the face of Patricia Gillette, 41, from south London who was imprisoned indefinitely for killing Mar Murphy, 38, at his home in Streatham in August 2006.

She was held in Bethlem Royal Hospital and was on an escorted visit to shops in West Wickham High Street, Bromley, when she escaped on Friday afternoon.

Police described her as "dangerous".

I shake my head in disbelief when I read stories like this. A dangerous criminal, having served just 3 years of an indefinite sentence, is taken shopping?

Just how far do we intend to travel down the road of stupidity? We should ensure the decision makers responsible for permitting this were named, shamed and sacked.

I expect she'd look really pretty in a nice new frock.

Ahem. Everyone to their opinion Stewart.

Snap lol

Detained indefinitely means she's regarded by the judiciary as a flying buttress short of a cathedral too.
In other words a psycho.
She should not have been let out at all.

Well, what else can you say about this twilight zone we're living in?

Very true Stewart. Shows how far removed from reality politicians are doesn't it.

As you say QM you've just got to rant about this type of behaviour from public servants. So many seem incapable of making sensible decisions these days. Or is it me thinking the 'old days' were better?

Why in the name of heaven was someone described as dangerous taken SHOPPING? Speaking of being a buttress short of a cathedral...

Jeanne, it's unbelievable. Yet nobody will be held to account. Wonder if they'll ever find her.

I think this is very worrying indeed. We only heard about this because it went wrong, how often do shopping expeditions for serious offenders happen?

What really surprises me is that this sort of trip can be carried out at all after such high-profile cock-ups as the Dano Sonnex murders of the French students, when he was out on licence, or Jonathan Zito being killed by a known schizophrenic. One would hope that the authorities would put the safety of others over the rehabilitation of such a serious offender, assuming this trip was designed to socialise her.

That the police said she was dangerous says quite enough, she should have been kept in a secure unit until she no longer posed a danger to the public.

'indefinitely' means one day or 100 years don't know the case but probably 'schizophrenic'.

people can be cured.... you lot wanna get out into reality

subrosa said...

Indeed Tom, but it's all to do with Human Rights. Everyone must be permitted to shop obviously.

Niko, you sound just like my parole board pal. Head in the clouds and common sense left on the bus.

Hi SR
Just laughing at your reply to Niko. Good one!
Have just googled this hospital she was "held" in, seems to be a Mental Hospital but does not seem to have heavy security, the map does'nt show any overt security at all. Seems you just walk in and out? Certainly does not seem locked down tight. And why not use a gps tag, wont stop them running but you will have a couple of hours to know roughly,as in 150 yards radius where they are, or is that too simple.
Be nice if the system could get its act together, but they seem to think their act is to keep us under control, not the crims. But the question remains, why was she not in a secure establishment? You are quite right in what you say.

Well it's true Apogee, she's a lovely friend but definitely part of the liberal styled labour supporters.

You're right though. It's much easier for them to keep us under control than criminals. That's what the country has come to now.

I didn't google the hospital but I believe what you say about it, in fact I'm not too surprised either.

Rosie, don't be so bloody stupid! How else is she supposed to buy her Christmas pressies. Amazon don't do deliveries to cell 23c, Wandsworth prison!

subrosa said...

Aye CH, never thought of her. Of course she'll know the tricks.

subrosa said...

Think it could be until the pips yell IPP if we don't waken up.

subrosa said...

Oh DL, how can I be so daft! She'll need to buy her keepers something nice right enough.

I though Amazon delivered everywhere but of course don't they use TNT now?

Speaking of post, all's gone quiet on the Royal Mail front for the moment.

Thanks Jayce, I wasn't aware of that. If I lived in that area I would have been troubled a bit about someone with her history wandering around.

Good blog Jayce, I was just reading it the other day. Time I had another engineer on my blogroll to keep the Filthy Engineer (Oh What Now) company.

Auch DL there'll be some labour voter running around Glasgow NE in them thinking their luck's changed.
