This is Bernard Jenkin, Tory MP for North Essex.
Sir Thomas Legg has requested Mr Jenkin return the sum of £63,250 which he claimed for a second home allowance. The second home was a farmhouse which he rented from his sister-in-law from 2004.
The former shadow defence secretary insists the Commons Fees Office sanctioned the arrangement but failed to inform him when payments to relatives were outlawed in 2006.
Nonetheless, Sir Thomas has told him to replay the full five years' rent and Mr Jenkin said he will pay back whatever is finally recommended at the end of the process.
Why on earth would an MP need a farmhouse at a rent of £1000 a month? Perhaps because of his hobby he feels it necessary to be away from prying eyes.

how about a police investigation? What a crook! If i'd have tried that with my company, I'd be sitting in Saughton prison
He must be wan o yon MiLud Salsbury's school of thoucht then.
MiLud privately referred to voters as vermin, by ra way.
So this trousering cretin must be of the same inbreeding, such is his lack of respect and contempt for the likes of us; the voter.
He claims no one told him.... Lord love us. No one told him!?!?!
They'll try anything to get out of it.
The question is did the rent just happen to suit that amount that he was allowed to have as expenses? Had expenses gone up, would rent have gone up?
Keep them coming SubRosa.
It took me a while to find his hobby, and I really wished I hadn't bothered. And I mean REALLY!
Euuwww.. what a disgusting thought. Question : Did the farm have sheep or chickens perchance?

It's frightening my mice.
OK Tris I won't. Anyway, seeing any male past the age of around 3 running round in the bare buff doesn't appeal to me either.
I'm with your mice on that one.
Another Tory going bare arsed in the wind then?
Aye and I wonder how many more haven't yet 'declared' scunnert.
