GLASGOW NORTH EAST BY-ELECTION
I have been approached by the PR officer for one of the candidates standing at the above election and asked if I would be willing to publish something from their candidate. My response was that I would not promote one individual candidate in this manner, but would be willing to publish something from all candidates, should they so wish, on an impartial basis.
In order to show equality to all, I suggested a set list of ten questions to be answered. Do you think this is reasonable and what questions would you like answered?
Many of us do not live in the constituency, but the use of blogging in this manner may just be helpful to voters during future campaigns.
It is not my intention to contact all the Glasgow North East candidates. Should they wish to take part would they please email me.

Seems a good idea. As for questions... bankers, immigration, knives, council housing (and the lack of), the rise of the far right, and police abdicating responsibilty on low-level nuisance to councils might be good topics.

How about just one burning question?
As too many so-called Westminster candidates appear unaware of the difference between 'reserved' and 'devolved' issues in Scotland(deliberately or ignorantly) - hence some of the manipulated confusion at Glenrothes etc. - ask each one of them to -
1. Exclusively prioritise the reserved Westminster issues in a manner that you think will improve the lives of the Glasgow North East constituents?
The follow-up question would then be -
2. What advantages will your reserved priorities have over Michael Martin's electoral promises and influence to improve quality of life in Springburn?
For a cheeky chaser -
3.What are the reasons you think Paul Martin has chosen not to stand for election as an MP and wishes to remain in Holyrood as MSP for Springburn?
I think the knives question, important as it is, is probably a matter for Edinburgh (justice). I note that someone (I believe the Labour candidate) talked at length about this yesterday. It's obviously a huge problem there... note to Kenny MacAskill!
I think an interesting and pertinent question, given the ward, would be what their opinion of the Incapacity Benefit rules changes proposed by Labour and Tories more or less exactly identically, whereby the sick will be made to work. (Dressed up of course in all manner of rubbish about helping them to a better life..... huh)
Another one might be about the money spent on nuclear weapons in Scotland.

Why do you think the socio-economic and health/quality of life indicators in the constituency are so poor? What will you personally do to be a catalyst for change?
