Fifteen members of Arbroath's elite 45 Commando Group and one soldier from the attached 7 (Sphinx) Battery, Royal Artillery have been decorated for acts of extreme courage during the unit's last tour in Afghanistan.
Let us not forget these people receive no bonuses, no overtime payments, no elite catering services such as those in the Houses of Parliament, very limited expenses and they never have the opportunity to have a second/third job because their own work is so demanding. The pay for a new recruit is less than for a new member of the police or fire services.

No words can adequately express the respect and admiration in which we hold our fighting men.
For all those who have received an honour, our warmest praise, wear it with pride. Each and everyone of them has earned it.

And we mustn't forget those that didn't receive a gong JRB, many don't but they too are brave and show immense courage.
Every one of them out there is going a great job, sadly they are let down by Bob Ainsworth & co.
Not just let down Fido, they're being hung out to dry poor souls, by individuals who have no understanding of the life these people live in war situations.

Alec I offer you my sincere apologies. The content of my post came from the Courier as I stated and I had no intention to disregard anyone else.
Please forgive me, it was not my intention to omit any soldier.
In fact I would have thought that many more deserved these accolades but I know how the military operate.
I have total admiration for Sgt Connelly believe me. Many civilians have no idea what these soldiers put themselves through day in and day out.
Oh, no, Subrosa, I surmised it was simply 'cos 45 is based at Arbroath, and 42 at Bickleigh that you were less likely to have heard of this.
Yes Alex, the Courier is a Dundee or Tayside paper and of course Arbroath is within their reporting remit.
I'm sorry I missed out anyone. Sad that all couldn't receive such accolades, I think of those who have lost limbs and minds. Many haven't been recognised is this way.
If I was a soldier I'd be mad because I didn't decide to become a banker. A bit of a hiccup without any serious consequences and it's back to normal with bonuses etc paid for by the taxpayers.
