Important Scotland Office Announcement

SCOTLAND OFFICE
ANNOUNCEMENT

Thanks for my sharp-eyed reader Stuart Dickson who found this nugget tucked away on Teletext.

I wonder why none of the Scottish media has picked it up:

'Devolution 'strengthened'
The UK Government will set out its plans to strengthen Scottish devolution this autumn, it has been announced.

Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy said the Government proposals will "draw on" recommendations made earlier this year in the report by the Calman commission on devolution.

This recommended a sheaf of "reforms", including giving Scotland greater powers over income tax.'

As Stuart says 'This will be fun'.

UPDATE: Stuart has provided me with this link to the Scotland Office. It is reported there have been lots of talks with Westminster officials and not one but two groups have been set up to work on the implementation of the Calman report recommendations.

A cross-party steering group of MSPs and MPs has also been put in place. It is chaired by Jim Murphy.

I didn't see that when I looked for something earlier this morning Stuart, although it's dated yesterday.

You would have thought one of the Scottish papers would have cottoned on if it was there yesterday wouldn't you?

Do I suspect a bit of erm... IT manipulation? You bet I do.

Well I'm sure that, whatever they manage to do it will be backstabbing and double dealing, sleaket and selfserving.

Sorry if that sounds negative but Labour's record in Scotland discourages me from thinking that they are doing this for our good. You can bet your bottom Euro that they are doing it for...THEM

SR,

Reads like Nazi's shredding and burning documentation as the Allies approach. Any change should be approved by the Scottish Government.

I don't trust Murphy or Labour anymore than I'd trust Cameron or the Tories with my beloved country.

We need to keep a collective look out for what's proposed and what's actually rushed through.....

Tho' there are reasonable suggestions, seems like they're panicking before the GE and worried that the SNP will be the dominant Scots part in Westmidden up until Independence of course!

Murphy hasn't had a proper job in all his life.

The purpose of the Calman codology was to delude voters that Labour was going to do something when they could never possibly have entertained any such intention.

We're drawing closer to a general election now and in Scotland Labour wants some clear water between themselves and the Tories, so this feigning of interest in the Calman bullshit will do. It allows Brown to say he intends to 'do something' about the Scottish Problem, while challenging Cameron to admit that he'd rather stick his face in a bowl of boiling fat than be seen to accomodate the barbarian Scots.

As ever, both are lying. Brown will do nothing to cede more power to Scotland because that simply means more power to the SNP. Our Gordon is brain-stem dead Labourite, and cannot countenance the loss of the Scottish citadel.

Cameron is an equally witless and unprincipled bastard, so for all his strutting and staring about the Union, he'll be willing to examine compromises with the SNP to keep the Union afloat. Electorally the Tories have nothing to lose in Scotland - as gamblers say, they have no skin in the game. But Call Me Dave will want to be the saviour of the Union, so he'll give us just about anything we ask for if we'll just agree to keep the union flag.

Bargain hard, Alex.

More of what Chris Walker in the Herald reader comment section of the past called the insidious danger of the "Tartan Shawl" effect? Lull us into the subterfuge that the unionist saps of devolution will be enough to keep the Independence wolf from the door.

I thought quite a few of the ideas within Calman had already been agreed by the SNP as entirely coherent with their already established political goals and that the SNP would happily implement them without ceremony ASAP?

Obviously, J Murphy with his bluff called, wants to confiscate these duplicated SNP policies and implement them under the Labour government's self-serving Calmanesque expediency. How much will his two committees cost us to decide what has already been decided - twit! Isn't a camel what a horse would look like if designed by a committee?

That's not negative in the least tris, possibly rather near the truth.

It does indeed doesn't it. All the cosy wee planning in Downing Street and of course, Davey lad desperate to keep Scotland onside because he needs the income he gets.

Small wonder the Scottish media haven't mentioned it.

Newsflash!

Just learned from a mate in the FCO who used to work for Murphy - That Murphy's a picky Vegan who used to burn the midnite oil, often finishing at 1am - doing what I ask?

Answers on a postcard - but I reckon he's the one on The Hootsman doing Gorgon's dirty war against the Nationalists with Maddox's help!

Feckin pair of retards!

Oh Vronksy, hae you been sitting in on these meetings?

How right you are.

I'm sure Alex can handle Davey - hope you do too.

You thought correctly Clarinda but there was protest I think at just part of it being introduced.

Two committees and a steering group - a matter of around £1mI expect if you include expenses.

I doubt if any in the SNP are naive enough to be taken in by the likes of Murphy. He's just a figurehead with no authority and even less charisma.
