The usual English world view that England 'is of Europe but not of it ......'.
Of course, we are talking of England's 'national sovereignty & independence' dressed up as 'British' independence which explains the essential paranoia that lies at the heart of England's relationship with her neighbours.
Just check out the right wing English/Brit nationalist commentators (Farrage for god's sake) on this ridiculous web clip that deserves pride of place in the Daily Mail/Express/Record lexicon of fame.

Well, it was interesting, but it was very very biased against the Union. I didn't see anything positive said (except we can get out of it), and we all know that there are positive things in it.
It was all about England (and an assumption that the "900 year old" (sic) UK? was England!) Everything about the continent was bad, and everthing about England (sic) was good. This, of course isn't true.
Some of the stuff that they said was just plain wrong. For example that from August 1 2005 you wouldn't be able to buy some herbal remedies. Firstly it didn't happen and secondly, although most of these things are not hugely dangerous, many of them are, according to most doctors, a complete waste of money. (My GP said they produce very expensive urine, thats all). Some of them in large doses are very harmful.
Farrage said you are told how to vote. Erm, Westminster and even Holyrood have the same thing. If he feels so strongly he could vote against the things he's been told to vote for.
It's corrupt... and Westminster isn't? Fraud, corruption and nepotism....yes, all in London too.
Accounts haven't been signed off...? Neither have the English government's. The home office for example....

Well, that would be a good thing seeing the way the corrupt English government use them. We already have our troops commanded on occasions by American generals, why would French generals be any worse?
The EU got the blame for the recession .... Nothing to do with us?
All these plumby voices telling us that England is best and Britian is paying for everyone else.
No allegience to the British Crown... well, it has that in common with me.
Our constitution is the envy of the world and everyone else but us has built up a pension debt? What?
Oh and, small point, Britain being called "she" argh. It's IT.
OK rant over. I know there is a great deal wrong with the EU and I don't think Scotland should be in it, but this was just too biased to be a reasonable argument. It was a rant, rather like mine, but this time by little Englanders who I suspect were just scared that some of their corruptly gained money would be going to ghastly foreigners.
The thing i love about they type of videos is in one episode they have Europe being dominated by Muslims then in the next we are dominating ourselves lol.
Its just a load of nationalistic rubbish comming from a few anti European toffs.
I have no sympathy over British Sovereignty when it comes to Europe for one simple reason.

Think about it, how many times do the unionists in the UK, mainly England say we are all British much to the anger of those like me who are Scottish but rather not be British ?
Indeed what goes around comes around.
I would rather be part of a united Europe that acts like a grown up union rather than one like the UK union that slaps down the Scots for being Scots the English for being English and so on.
At least a strong Europe would counterbalance American and Chinese domination.
Of course in the end, Scotland will always be Scotland no matter what union we are part of.
Some flukes in it right enough Tris, but the overall picture isn't a comfortable one for me. I'd rather the EC myself.
Well I must say I voted against it. In the time since then some of the stuff that's came out of it has been good others a load of tosh. However on balance I think I'd not want a full membership.....I think associate membership is better. We can then pick and choose what's good for us whilst maintaining close connections to the markets. Best of both worlds. Interesting that the video clip has the wermacht as an opening shot and swarms of ME109 buzing through it. Also interesting association - Germans = bad, harmless Little Codswallop in Kent = good. Mmmmm. I'd not be too worried if the Unionist got it right on this one and the EU said you can't come in but this vid would imply we'd be welcomed with open arms. Funny old world

Like Tris, had to laugh at the presenter complaining about what the EU taking away 900 years old ‘British’ independence. As several commentators have said, English nationalism did not do away with the Union – it just got rebranded.
Watch at 14m 15s: “In black and white, the draft constitution wording confirms Brussels will exercise competence and primacy over member states’ own laws. For the British, this will mean:
1. Being stripping of any remaining independence;
2. Losing control over our foreign policy and armed forces;
3. The handing over of our legal system and law enforcement to the EU;

Coincidentally or otherwise, these points sound a lot like what happened to Scotland in 1707:
1. Being stripping of any remaining independence;
2. Losing control over our foreign policy and armed forces;
3. The handing over of our legal system and law enforcement to United Kingdom [in terms of law creation, not process];
4. The scrapping of the Scots Pound to be replaced by the Pound Sterling;
5. The handing over of our remaining currency and gold reserves to the Bank of England;
6. And the total regulation of Scottish domestic and international trade by the United Kingdom.
This also raises some interesting questions:
Why don’t we hear Scottish Unionists complaining about European integration?
Would that be too much of a mental contortion to achieve – Unionist and separatist at the same time?
Why is it okay for Englishmen to be separatists [from the EU], but not all right for Scots [from the UK]?
Why are Scots portrayed as petty minded for wanting independence, but Englishmen wanting the same thing [from Europe] are portrayed as proudly holding onto their cherished ancient culture?
Can’t decide whether it’s irony or just double standards.

In the case of the European Union none of these things ever came to pass. It was scaremongering or stupidity.
Unfortunately they all did in the case of the Act of Union. No scaremongering here, just stupidity and greed.... and something with parcels and rogues.

So hilariously biased and wrong: it’s like the beginning of an episode of Little Britain with the Tom Baker voice over saying “Britain, Britain, Britain”. Of course Britain all alone won the 2nd World War and has always stood against European tyrants except of course that’s not true. It has consistently been foolish adventures in Russian that have brought otherwise successful European tyrants down while Britain watched impotently, that’s what happened to Hitler and to Napoleon. The quotes from that depressed and depressing old drunk Churchill were hilarious, what did he know about life after the 2nd World War, nothing that’s what. Witness his appalling second term as Prime Minister 1951-1955 which his advocates like to forget. I am amazed that Norris Macwhirter thinks this country is 900 years old, its sickening that someone like him simply lumps the Scots in with the English, also the mixing up of English and British shows how badly researched this item is. In short its total garbage.
There are many things wrong with the EU but there are so many more wrong with the UK union. This documentary (if I can call it that) highlights the things wrong with the UK union much better than the ones wrong with the EU.

You know the only night he ever stayed in Dundee (rather than his favoured place Edinburgh) was the night he lost the election there. Dundonians are smart thinkers at times!
All these programmes lump Scotland with England and then call it England or Britain if they're feeling generous.
I still believe that an independent Scotland shouldn't be completely involved with the EU and should do what other small countries like the Scandanavian ones have, support it only.
