Remember him? The part-time Defence Secretary and part-time Secretary of state for Scotland who insisted he could do both jobs efficiently even while our soldiers were at war.
The favourite journalist of every supporter of Scottish independence reports today that Des Browne is intent on becoming an MSP. Browne wants to step down as an MP at the next general election and replace his friend and former colleague George Foulkes as the top candidate on the Lothians list.
George Foukes has already made it clear that he does not want to be a candidate at the next election, despite speculation that he planned to run against SNP West Lothian MSP Angela Constance. Daft idea George, you don't stand a chance.
An interesting sentence in the article:
The way appears to have been left clear because a top Nato job Browne was considered for has not been made available.
So Des has been shunned by NATO. Well, well, who would have thought it. Jobs for the boys aren't for all the boys it seems, so Des has decided he prefers living in Edinburgh, hence his reluctance to continue as MP for Kilmarnock and Louden and preference for a place on the Lothians list.
Of course Labour deny everything. "As far as we are aware Des is going to stand again in Kilmarnock and Louden. However, we can't say what will happen in the next year and things may change."
Things may change indeed. Somehow I feel we'll see more Scottish MPs making a desperate bid for a Holyrood seat.

A picture of rats leaving the Titanic and swimming manically towards The Carpathian? Nothing to do with a desperate need to appear important and have the expenses to go with it. What if Jimmy fancies Alex's job. Now that would be funny.
I agree Subrosa. If Holyrood becomes a retirement home for MPs who can't win their constituencies but can get into the Scottish Parliament on the second vote it will be highly regrettable.
Particularly if they've already been knocked back for 'jobs for the boys' jobs.
I reckon Des is the first of many (well, 3rd of many once Malawi McConnell and Lord Foulkes are considered).
It would be nice if some young blood could cut their teeth in Holyrood rather than old faces (literally) going through the motions.

I skim read your post and on the last line read, or so I thought, read that faeces were going through their motions.
Silly me
Should have read it twice
lack of red biddy today
Funny OR?? Hysterical is more the word.
Brown is scared to death of many in the SNP and Alex would have him for breakfast.

Jiminy Cricket!
Give a little whistle!!
We are badly served by our politicians especially the ones who could never be in Holyrood.
We really don't want a parliament full of failures. And let's be honest, Des Brown was a huge failure.
The place for the likes of him is where all the useless old duffers go to moulder. The House of Lards.
People need to understand that we have a serious government dealing with people's lives and livings in Edinburgh. We need good people, people with ideas and vigour. Unlike Westminster, the idea here is to take us forward, not hold us back
Worn out old has beens from London have no place in that sort of parliament.
SR,
Indeed and those from Labour that come from Westmidden offer Scotland nothing. They also bring a poor work ethic and ingrained bad habits.
Looks like Nick Clegg is contiuing to be a bigger dick than we first thought if his Twitter is a true message.
Another step closer eh? What makes these Red idiots think they're vote worthy in Scotland?
They have squandered our yesterdays and todays, no way will Scotland let them take our tomorrows.

Jeff, some of these MPs are the ones who have been particularly offensive about Holyrood but their lack of conscience and desperation to stay 'safe' within politics, will result in lowering the quality of our Parliament.
Unfortunately it's the list system which allows them a half open door.
Aye Faux Cu and he'll not be the only one.
Well said Tris young man. We want a modern parliament not one full of ex-union leaders.
CD I doubt if there's anything we can do to avoid the likes of Browne getting on the list if the electorate vote for him, but you're right, we don't want ex-labour Westminster MPs.
Nice Niko, thanks.
