Budget Threat to SNP Government

Jason Allerdyce reports Labour and Tory groups at Holyrood are threatening to vote down the Scottish Government's budget unless Alex Salmond agrees to abandon the National Conversation.

The parties' leaders want a commitment that the government will spend no further funds on its consultation on constitutional reform, which is expected to cost more than £700,000.

One senior Tory said the party would give "serious consideration" to voting down the budget.

A senior Labour MSP said "It's possible we would say we won't vote for the budget if there is to be further spending on the National Conversation.

What short memories unionist MSPs have. Last year their games caused them much more humiliation than the SNP and now they're at it again.

Jason didn't mention the Calman Commission of course - that unionist talking shop which refused to recognise one third of the country wishes for independence. His reason may well be that the Calman Commission cost a great deal more.

Poor reporting Jason. Definite room for improvement.

SR,

Bring it on, SNP calls an election, SNP returned with a outright majority = endgame for Unionistas still greetin cause the lost the last election and they'll lose the next one too.

The riot I predicted has started and it's going to get worse. Time to take positive control of our future.

Westmidden cannot be trusted.

Sunny here!

You're determined to have a riot aren't you CD. :)

True if they do vote it down then Salmond would not hesitate to make a move.

Overcast here. Nippy.

I posted on this on Blether with Brian.

I think that this is just newspaper spin, the opposition do not have the balls (I was more PC on the beeb) as Alex Salmond would not hesitate to resign his goverment if this was made part of the budget debate.

In view of the wonderful poll results reported in yesterdays Sunday Express the last thing the opposition would want is another election, and Goldie would not vote for Gray as First Minister under any circumstances.

P.S. Crazy Daisy we will win this by debate and argument, no need for riots.

"one third of the country wishes for independence"

So what do the other two thirds want? Will Holyrood show Malvern water bottles on their desks soon?

Dub, SR,

I was not referring to Scotland - I was referring to England and what Westminster has caused - poverty, mass immigration, a total lack of leadership and concern for ALL society, not just minorities - so much for resolving the issues.

Hence for Scotland's best interests only the SNP and Scotland centric party can produce results and fight for our corner.

And as for "I predict a riot", I do, hundreds of them yet to come south of the border, Frenchies style!

Dubbie, I would agree with you. It's just a bit of malicious spin from the unionists.

Hey OR, there's nothing wrong with good Scottish tap water. In this house bottled water is forbidden. It tastes of chemicals - all of it.

Ah CD, gotcha! I only hear about what's going on in England from friends and many are unhappy and concerned that the tories or libdems aren't going to do much about it.

UKIP seems popular.

Sun out now.

Not again! What a load of mince they talk. Every year two or three times there's gonna be a vote of confidence (and that is what this is), and every time the lilly livered muppets fold their tents and slope off with their stupid tails between their stupid legs.

The only alternative to an SNP government in Holyrood is Labour backed by the Liberals. Does Goldie want that? I don't think so. Does Scott want that... hum, who the hell knows what the Illiberals want? Does Gray want it? Probably not right now. First he couldn't do it, and secondly with all the cuts next year he really doesn't want to be in charge.

As usual they will chicken out of it.

They need to raise their games. We need grown up politics here. Not a pile of forth formers playing at politics just as a change from doctors and nurses.

I don't think Tavish is in the mood to play the fool tris. Alex seems to have been taking him seriously at FMQs the past couple of weeks.

Lord SR. I haven't seen FMQ for a while. Imagine anyone taking Tavish seriously... wow...

Tris, I think Tavish is trying to grow up. :)
