The Plot Thickens

We know Gordon Brown met Gaddafi six weeks ago and we also know that Prince Andrew has enjoyed being feted in Libya as well as hosting occasions to which members of Gaddafi's family were cordially invited. Oh let's not forget Peter Mandelson meeting with Gaddafi's heir when he was on holiday in Corfu this summer.

Now there is the news that four Labour ministers met Libyans before Megrahi's release.

Last night the Cabinet Office released papers which showed that Lord Jones, a trade minister, visited Tripoli in May last year to talk business to representatives. In November Dawn Primarolo, then a health minister, held bilateral talks with the Libyan prime minister and the Secretary of the General People's Committee. Her boss, Alan Johnson also met Libyan heath ministers at the World Heath Assembly held in Geneva last year. In addition, Bill Rammell, the Foreign Office Minister, held bilateral talks with foreign ministers in the Libyan capital in February 2009.

Of course, the official party line is that none of this is relevant to the Megrahi case. It would be abhorrent to suggest his release has anything to do with finance, oil production, or was a little sweetener for Colonel Gaddafi to parade in front of his people on the 40th anniversary of his coming to power.

Surely none of us would possibly draw that conclusion. There is a chance we may though when the plot thickens even more and that's bound to happen.

Indeed so. Have you read Andrew Neil on his BBC blog? Lots of interesting stuff.

No Howard, I seldom read it. I shall go and do it right now.

Way back, there were a handful of my fellow troopers who recalled Libya and Tripoli from '42 and '43. They were only too happy to get out and have it as a bad memory. Does anyone want the recipe for Benghazi Brandy, perhaps that is the big attraction for our politicians?

Don't forget my research showed Jimmy courting The UAE last year, in company with Baron David de Rothschild and Fondlebum!

Benghazi Brandy? Sounds far more sinister than London Gin Demetrius.

I haven't forgotten OR and I'm sure Jimmy enjoyed every minute. ;)

Even better is the fact that the unnamed GP who predicted Megrahi's demise was not qualified so to do.

It's strange that by the use of political smoke and mirrors those who give the impression of opposing Al-Megrahi's release have the most to gain - certainly in financial terms of covert deals etc..

There must have been a remarkable sigh of relief when, by coincidence, Mr MacAskill had little option but to follow Scots Law and release Al-Megrahi. This serendipitous event couldn't have been better for Mr MacAskill's opponents to stage-manage a dramatic act of double-bluff. The cod indignation and ham anger from a veritable chorus line of amateur two-faced understudies bore more resemblence to Holywood than Holyrood and elsewhere while the leading man hid in the wings - stage-fright rendering him silent.

I was wondering how much extra intervention, management and care is being flown in and willingly paid for by Libya to augment his medical supervision to enable Al-Megrahi to live as long as possible? Perhaps the Libyans prefer that he goes as his stated prognosis suggested finally freeing the oil pipe-lines out and the money in. I gather the import of large brown envelopes to Tripoli has soared recently and the Swiss bankers are commissioning extensions to their vaults.

The whole affair stinks like ten day old fish. I don't understand Scotland's reluctance to hold an inquiry.

Ah Cato, I thought he was Scottish Prisons Chief Medical Officer. Didn't realise he wasn't qualified.

Oh Clarinda, wonderful!

There's something brewing with the leading man and it's extra to his stage-fright.

Have you read Calum's comment scunnert? We could hold an inquiry but we have little clout. Read his comment.

subrosa said...

Oh scunnert, it's on my last post about Megrahi, not this one.

Kenny a liar then eh?
