Bank Holiday Fun

Looking for something interesting to do tomorrow on bank holiday Saturday? Look no further.

The world haggis eating championship is part of the Birnam Highland Games. The 126th gathering will take place at the Games Park, Little Dunkeld.

As well as all the track and field events, Birnam Games have now become famous for the annual world haggis eating championship. Last year's champion, Willie Robertson, will be pitting his eating skills against entrants from all over the world. Local rival Callum McLeod, who narrowly lost on a photo finish, is in early training and will be one of the main competitors. Visitors will be encouraged to compete and will also be offered some of the haggis to taste after the event.

An American Travel channel television crew are in Dunkeld filming the games as are a Norwegian crew who are filming footage for use in Europe.

Gates open at 11am and the events start at noon. Dunkeld is situated 12 miles north of Perth just off the A9 to Inverness.

Hi Subrosa. Wonder if you know Groundskeeper Willie's pitch at selling haggis -

'CHOPPED heart and lungs. Boiled in a wee sheep’s stomach. Tastes as good as it sounds'

From several perspectives, this event sounds not for moi - am a big fan of Macsween's veggie haggis however (which can be exported to US unlike offal version).

I first read that as 'pitting his eating skills against entrails from all over the world'. I knew that couldn't be right. Scotch entrails only, surely.

I didn't know that Edwin. Thanks for that though - glad I've already had breakfast!

Some vegetarian haggis are good but you've to shop around.
