Afghanistan - Toll Rises to 204

Three more of our soldiers have been killed near Sangin in Helmand province today. They were all from the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

This brings the death toll of those killed in action to 204. Let us not forget those injured, many seriously and they will never have a normal life again.

More families with a lifetime to wonder why and never to receive adequate answers.

One of my readers (Vronsky) provided the following. I find it extremely moving.

Futility
By Wilfred Owen

Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields half-sown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Think how it wakes the seeds—
Woke once the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear achieved, are sides
Full-nerved; still warm, too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth’s sleep at all?
