The SNP lost out to Labour in a by-election for a seat on Glasgow City Council's Drumchapel/Anniesland ward.
Scottish Labour's Anne McTaggart won 2,584 votes, while SNP candidate Martin Docherty came in second with 1,509 votes of the total of 20,138 cast. Percentage turnout was 26.9%.
The by-election was called after SNP councillor Bill Kidd resigned from the council earlier this year.

Hmmm!
As a slavish member of the party, I feel obliged to point out that we (the SNP) did achieve a swing of over 9%.
Not a bad result.
Labour also won the by-election in Coatbridge by something like 60 votes, on a swing of about 5% to the SNP.
Both these results, ie pretty large swings from Labour to SNP in what are the Labour heartlands bodes very well for the SNP in the Euro count.
This illustrates, albeit in a small way, that the most disadvantaged still believe that Labour is the party of the people without questioning as to why they are disadvantaged.
Morning Sean. I'm no slave to the SNP, these days are over :) I would have thought the result would have been closer.
Aye as I said to Sean I would have thought the swing would have been greater brownlie. Morning to you. Sunshine here and the BBC said it would be rain.
I'm delighted to get so close in both these byelections. The Coatbridge one is simply outstanding. From a gradualist perspective this is great news.
Aye Monty the Coatbridge one was better. I'd gone to bed by the time that result was announced!
Coming from that part of the mafiosa fiefdom, I'm not surprised at the results, though that doesn't stop me from being a little disappointed. However, Rome wasn't built in a day but non the less, I hope The SNP doesn't lose the momentum it has been steadily building up over the past few years and folk become stale or return to apathy.
Folk who have aspirations that there must be something much better than what Westmidden has to offer Scotland and themselves. We have witnessed the negativism of New Labour towards any thoughts of self determination and only a fool would put faith in the Tories to aid us in obtaining the dignity and self respect that any nation state has the right to expect of it's-self and it's citizenry.
...and coming in second no matter how encouraging that may be, doesn't in it's self help us on the road to self determination. Only by being in power in the civil administrations and proving worth and fitness to govern far better than what has gone before will do that.
...and nothing but.
.
I guess its a cabbage and red rosette story.
I have to laugh at Mr 7% though frothing at the mouth about a humiliation for Alex Salmond.
Does he know what's going on in London, and how many people all over the world are choking themselves laughing at the British government's disintegration?
Shut up Elmer, you idiot, you're making a twit of yourself again.
Agree Tom, I was disappointed too. I doubt if we'll get a better opportunity to break through unless of course, if the new cabinet is dreadful, which it could well be.
Tris I haven't read the bland man's comments yet. His time would be better spent learning how to speak in debate.
Only Elmer Fudd could describe a 9% swing from Labour to the Snp as "a superb result for Labour".
That is after talking crap for 2 weeks at FMQ about absconders from "the open estate". why can't he just simply say Open Prision and then everyone would know what he is talking about.
It was unfortunate that the by-election in Glasgow was held on the same day as the euros. Meant that most Glasgow activists were not in a position to help as they were fighting their own campaigns.
Labour did not seem to be running a euro campaign however so were able to give better support to the by-election.
Just the way it goes sometimes. You can't win them all.
The New Cabinet is mince, Subrosa.
...and mince of dubious ancestrial origins as weel.
I have followed ah'll dae as ah'm telt, Reid's career and he is all that you wrote that he is. I'm ashamed to say he was family but that cretin Ainsworth is something else. He's a local big wig in these pairts and aye, the feeling is of mutual loathing whenever our paths have crossed in the past.
Ah ken them both for what they are.
Reid has at least a sense of tribal loyalty. Ainsworth cares only for what's gratifies Ainsworth.
.
Very true Indy, shame though. I don't think there will be a better opportunity for a while especially since this seat was SNP.
