For My English Friends

England, my England

Goodbye to my England, So long my old friend
Your days are numbered, being brought to an end
To be Scottish, Irish or Welsh that's fine
But don't say you're English, that's way out of line.

The French and the Germans may call themselves such
So may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch
You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane
But don't say you're English ever again.

At Broadcasting House the word is taboo
In Brussels it's scrapped, in Parliament too
Even schools are affected. Staff do as they're told
They must not teach children about England of old.

Writers like Shakespeare, Milton and Shaw
The pupils don't learn about them any more
How about Agincourt, Hastings , Arnhem or Mons ?
When England lost hosts of her very brave sons.

We are not Europeans, how can we be?
Europe is miles away, over the sea
We're the English from England, let's all be proud
Stand up and be counted - Shout it out loud!

Let's tell our Government and Brussels too
We're proud of our heritage and the Red, White and Blue
Fly the flag of Saint George or the Union Jack
Let the world know - WE WANT OUR ENGLAND BACK !!!!

Sent to me by a very dear English friend.

I can think of quite a lot of peoples who would wish that the English (puir wee souls that they are) had stayed where they were and minded their own bloody business. If this little ditty is an indication that the bastards might be prepared to spend a little more time on their own affairs and less interfering with others, there will be loud cheers around the globe.

The sole cause of man's unhappiness is that he does not know how to stay quietly in his room.

In some ways I sympathise with the English and their predicament because it's true England is seldom mentioned these days.

But, and it's a big but, they have brought a lot of this on themselves. We're a population of 5 million and they are 60 million. A population of 5m manages to hold onto their culture and nationality. Why can't 11 times as many do it too?

Us Scots can be aggressive when our nationality is demeaned and I make no apology for that because it has to be protected. It's time English people took a similar stance and ensured this politically correct attitude inflicted upon us is changed and changed now.

There is the rub subrosa.
Scotland was run like an English colony for eighteen tory years; where was the English angst then?
When the Brown boot is on the other foot for less than two years...

Aren't we still being treated like an English colony Conan? Feels like it at times.

We're much the same Niko, although I can trace my ancestry back to the Picts. Dancing round stones naked has never appealed to me though, even in lovely weather such as today.
