Armed Forces Day 27 June 2009

Today is the first Armed Forces Day and is an opportunity for all to show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.

No senior royals will attend any of the main ceremonies marking what used to be known as Veterans Day. Claims that the Queen and Prince Charles were both invited to Saturday's event at the Historic Dockyard in Chatham Kent, were denied by both royal sources and the MoD. The Queen will be in Edinburgh where she will present campaign medals to the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. The Prince of Wales will spend the weekend at Highgrove.

Various events are planned around the UK today and you can find those in your area here.

The Last of the Few has also posted about this event and I entirely agree with his sentiments.

God bless our armed forces for the sacrifices they make for us...sometimes useless and avoidable sacrifices...but the fact is our free nations have so many fallen daughters and sons and may God bless them all and keep them in eternal peace.
We shall never forget their dedication and love of nation

Thanks Baron. Isn't Armed Forces Day an American idea?

A day that sees The Union Flag proudly flown at your head is a wonderful day!

Yes I think it is Subrosa, but then most ideas our governments have are American ones.

Nice to see that the Duke of Rothsay will be taking an active part in the day, taking a well deserved rest at Highgrove with his crocodile. He's good at bumping his gums about the armed forces, but we wouldn't want to disturb his Saturday, would we?

It's good that the Queen is doing something in Scotland. I wonder what that repulsive little man Ingram is doing? Don't you think he looks like he needs a good wash?

How I hate that bloke.

Awe tris, maybe nobody invited Charlie.

Don't start on about Ingram, just don't go there...

I'm flying the Saltire OR as I do every day of the year.

Sacrifices they make for US, Baron???
Surely you mean The U.S? Hard to believe that there are still people who mindlessly cheer what is in effect a killing machine even after the revelations of abuse, civilian deaths, bullying, murder, racism and torture. Dont you know that the actions of British armed forces are making us LESS secure?

Well, I could understand that no one would want him there! He's so demanding when he does anything that it all becomes about him, and not about the heros. And poor fellow he only gets around £20 million a year.

OK. I won't mention the the other vacuous idiot.... :)

You mean the playboy tris? Aye please don't.

You don't think Britain should have a military then Selma?

You think anyone who joins the military is a killing machine?

What about my point of view, don't you think the representatives we elect are the people responsible for making us LESS secure? Or perhaps you think the military just act all on their own.

Yes it was bad American Idea..
God Bless our Fallen Brothers and Sisters.

I think the military have enough to do Baron without this type of display. Those communities which have military bases know the benefit they bring and appreciate them being there. Those who have no contact with the military have no idea of their work. Maybe, just maybe a day like this will make a difference to them.

SR,

A quiet day for me and one with those I love and not spent at the alter of NuLiebore gimmicks.

Yes it may be a celebration or a show of support for those of us who do not question why and just do and/or die!

Another meaningless date on the calendar in truth. Everyday for me is Armed Forces day!

Saor Alba,

Crazy D

I was wondering what you thought of it CD, received similar comments from others. Yes, another American import we could do without but we should have a Veterans Day in my opinion.
