FMQs 11 June 2009

Apologies for the lateness of this post. Accessing the Sky recording wasn't possible until a short time ago.

Kick-off with Iain Gray was a question concerning repossessions of homes and he considered the Scottish government hadn't done enough in this area. England have a much better system. Yes of course they do Mr Gray and you are determined we shall do everything England does. Is there a week goes by when he doesn't mention England? I can't recall one, but of course his questions come from London so it's natural he would do a comparison isn't it.

Mr Salmond reiterated the progress of the new legislation plus the fact that the SNP government had built more social housing than the last administration and he welcomed Mr Gray's offer to assist with the legislation. Mr Gray offered to bring the labour party to the Parliament during the summer recess to vote on the new Bill, but I very much doubt such a situation would happen.

Annabel Goldie's point of the week was more and more court fines are unpaid. "Not as many as under the tories" was the retort. Ouch! It never ceases to surprise me why courts issue fines when they know full well they won't be paid in many cases.

It was Tavish Scott's question which raised most interest and that was to ask if the FM intended to intervene in the Setanta crisis which would affect SPL clubs. The FM stated there was nothing he could do, although he was extremely concerned, being a football supporter himself. He told the chamber he could not give public money to clubs and he couldn't see any role for the government. However, he said if Mr Scott had any ideas about how he could help he was willing to discuss them.

So, for football-loving readers, all is not quite lost where Setanta in concerned. The solution for Scottish football clubs now lies firmly in the hands of Tavish Scott.

Well that's Scottish Football bu**ered then!

Good morning Fitaloon. I have to admit Tavish doesn't strike me as an avid football supporter. Can't quite see him getting into the swing of it just in case his cuffs got dirty.

Time for all this jolly banter to stop. The fiery cross is being sent around for Glasgow North. Boots and saddles, guys - another chance to stick it to the fascists in their back yard.

Vronsky, your link isn't working. Dare I ask you to try again.

Jolly banter on this blog? What a lovely compliment to all.

Oops. Try this.

Works fine now thanks Vronsky.

I see the bold David in the Scotsman classifies this as an attack by Tavish. He must have been watching a different TV to mine. I notice my countryman Angus Og has his customary dig at the SNP. I hope my accent isn't the same as his anglicised teuchter accent.

Why is it that we never get the full FMQs. We always have to cut away to get the words of wisdom, usually from that twat from the Times, Angus something. Yesterday, we cut away in the middle of the most interesting part of the proceedings, a stramash between Alex and Labour.

Subrosa you mentioned a link with Sky, where is that?

Aye I heard your countryman brownlie. I was tired when I watched it last night and to be honest, Iain Gray's style switches off my interest factor at the best of times.

I thought Alex was most co-operative with Tavish didn't you?

I've complained about that a few times DL, doesn't make a blind bit of difference.

The only way you'll see the rest of it is on Holyrood TV and it should be put later today.

It's all to do with the BBC telling us what and how much we'll watch DL. Time for our own broadcasting service, in fact long past time.

It never ceases to amaze me that politicians bring up points about the government which, as you point out here, were worse under their own administration. (This seems to go for all parties.) You'd think that someone with as much sense as Annabel would know what was coming.

It seems sensible that, if Tavish has an idea of how he can save the football business in Scotland, for that's what the SPL is, then we should hear what it is.

I just hope for the sake of all concerned that it's better thought out than his average scheme.

I just wonder if he's got any ideas tris or was it a question just for effect.

tris.

Annabell has been a bit off, recently and has been scoring a series of 'home goals'.

Maybe, our wee parliament should invite her branch office, party chairman in for the questioning.

Better to get the answers from the horse's mouth rather than from the cairt being dragged behind, eh.

Aye Tom, she's no been on form has she? At times I get a wee feeling that she's pushing a union she doesn't really believe in. Perhaps she's seen the writing on the shortbread tin and realises her union is a fallacy.

Or is it time for my wee pal Derek??
