The number of our military who have been killed in action in Afghanistan now numbers 137.
During the Iraq operation the number was 136 and that was over a period of 5 years. The majority of the deaths in the Afghanistan conflict have been over 3 years.
Not one other person should be killed because we have a Prime Minister who will do anything to please the American President and that includes using our troops for his own political ends.
John Reid, "No shot will be fired." Liar.

Absolutely. It sickens me Sb. To the core.
Me too TP and I hope DC is going to stop putting our forces in the front line everywhere. Other European countries won't permit it with their troops.
You're right SR - European countries won't put their troops in the frontline to the extent that we do. I just blogged on the same thing as well - it's a shame that these figures are being overlooked in all the coverage of the reshuffle and the locals/euros.
That's where the labour party have gone wrong GV, they've put their own self interests ahead of the country. It worries me that the tories will do the same.
I hadn't realized this. Quite sobering. Of course, this Afghan campaign originated in the 'hot pursuit' after September 2001, which had wider international legitimacy. But the vanity invasion of Iraq allowed this situation to drift badly, lose legitimacy and lose focus. What's the 'exit strategy' here though? Just to go..?
Wish I was in your Scottish paradise Sb ;-)
It's not bad TP, too many geriatrics, but not bad. (I bit rich that is coming from me I suppose because that description could well apply to me sooner rather than later). It used to be a tory constituency this one so you'd still have friends around. :)
No exit strategy that I've heard of Mek. All I've read is that we're there for the long haul now and Westminister are talking in decades rather than years. :(
I wonder how many Afghans 'our boys' have killed, tortured and dispossesed?
Selma, do you not believe in the Uk having a military then? If they were used sensibly then that wouldn't happen.
Today's UK military are the best trained in the world at peace keeping duties. Unfortunately it's the politicians who control them who are the liars.
More bad news for our lads and lassies, ah'm afraid to say.
Yon @rse lickin cretin, Ainsworth is the New Defence Minister.
Heaven help them for that knunt won't. That's for sure.
.
Tom, I don't know much about Ainsworth, just what I've read in the press and that's not at all good.
You're right God help our troops and their families.
Let's just hope he doesn't remain there for very long. He's a creep, but then let's face it, which one of them isn't.
Brown's last cabinet was scraping the barrel; this lot.....are the rejects from that! Can you imagine?
Please Mr Cameron, bring the troops home from a totally unwinnable war. If the Soviet Union couldn't sort Afghanistan with all the money, equipment and abandon they could throw at it, what on earth chance has anyone else?
At one time if a British serviceman was killed it would be front page news. Sadly, it is now happens so frequently that it only merits a couple of lines on an inside page. Having loved ones in that area, and not being confident that they are adequately equipped, must be an extremely hard burden to bear.
And look who is now going to be in charge of the forces brownlie. Worrying, very worrying indeed.
That Bob Ainsworth is now the Minister for Defence is a real insult.
It's absolute insolence to our forces and the public GV. I'm so so angry.
Happily my brother-in-law has just returned safely from Afghanistan. It is always reported that there have been so many deaths since 2004 or 5 by the BBC forgetting the fact that 90% have occurred in the last couple of Years.
And now we have Ainsworth as Brown's lickspittle at the MOD. He is a lying disgace who should have been fired before now. MY wife couldn't speak for hours after this announcement and if you knew her you would know how angry she must have been about this.
Fitaloon, I'm so pleased your brother in law is safely hope. It's a constant worry for families when their nearest and dearest are in these places.
I saw your post about Ainsworth and I'm going to do one myself tomorrow with a couple of links to yours. Do hope you don't mind.
My blood is still boiling too much so I can understand your wife. Bad times for our troops now, even worse than before.
I perhaps have experienced a little of how you feel Fitaloon.
My Favourite niece was in tears awhile back.Kept looking at her wedding photos and upsetting herself. All the family were upset.
Her best man at their wedding came home in a box. A lovely laddie, he was. What a waste, ...and for what.
To appease some politicians and their arrogant, delusional overrated sense of their own importance in matters of precidence to themselves.
If they want to go a crusading.
Fine by me. Ah'll contribute to the price of their one way fare on the condition they attempt to spend forty days in the wilderness alone without the protection of those they have abused.
.
There is something wrong with a country which has a Prime Minister who will put their own ambitions ahead of the lives of our protectors. I feel that more strongly each day.
