We're Paying for This but the Children will Pay More

The woman on the left, Catherine Scott, has just given birth to twins.  The other woman in the photograph is the ex-wife of the father of the twins (the male in the photograph) who has five other children by three ex-wives.  He's unable to work due to a groin injury. (I'm desperately trying to contain my anger now).

At 14 Catherine Scott left her wealthy parents' home and had a baby with a Big Issue seller but left the child with her parents 'because she couldn't cope'.  She hasn't been to school since she was 12.

They now want a bigger house in Margate because Miss Scott isn't happy in their 3 bedroomed flat.  "I'll make a good mum this time," said Miss Scott, "We'll be OK - we'll get child benefit, child tax credits and milk tokens."  Plus of course our housing and council tax paid by the daft taxpayers you should have added Miss Scott.  The whole story is here.

What should be done to ensure these babies have a decent future?  Place the children with sensible, caring adults, insist Miss Scott and her groin-injured lover do some form of training towards work until she can prove she is capable of bringing up these babies and only once she's shown responsibility allow her children to be returned to her.  Harsh?  No.  The children are the most important in this case and they must not be allowed to be pawns in their mother's life at present.

Groin injury? Seems to be in perfect working order to me.

Off topic subrosa, I've made a comment on the Steamie about a missing post, or more to the point, the missing comments.

The man IS a C.

I fully concur with you assessment with regards to finding a solution for the future well being of the children in question but with one addendum.

The sensible caring adults you speak of - Preferably they would be married to each other and be of both genders

Sorry, yes of course BD, I should have said that. I still can't get my head round some of the changes to our society in the past 12 years as you can see.

Conan, the post has been removed. I just had a look because Brownlie mentioned it.

It's a strange person who removes blogposts. Not very honourable to his vocation is he.

SR,

"If you can't support a child then don't have one" should be the message.

I'm all for helping out the needy - but not the lazy, workshy, scroungers that permeate todays society.

It would be easy just to sod off to another country, but that also has it's problems - I wouldn't be surprised if a Caliphate was the end game in years to come as western democracy has no standards.

We inately know what's right and wrong as humans and this indivudal should be shot because he's malfunctioning as a responsible member of society, oh! so is most of Parliament - fuck human rights - where's my rights?!!

I predict a riot.....

You're watching BBC news Cd, they're predicting riots and increased crime and stating we also need 2000 more police to handle the protesters.

'If you can't support a child then don't have one.'

That is pretty much what is happening, as our declining population stats show. We are set to lose half a million people over the next 40 years - the equivalent of losing a town the size of carnoustie or galashiels every year. The reason is that not enough children are being born.

It's a strange picture in Scotland - employed, educated women delay childbirth later and later - often until it is too late - while uneducated women have babies when they are little more than children themselves.

We can't solve this by saying you should only have a baby if you can afford to pay for everything yourself. We will literally die out if that is the case.

Rather, we should look to the Scandinavian model. Provide support for working parents of both sexes rather than subsidising worklessness. Its an investment for everyone's benefit. Unfortunately Labour has developed pretty much the opposite approach as tax credits in fact incentivise greater dependency.

Indy I do so enjoy your comments and you're right here of course. No one, other than the UK support worklessness and do nothing about tackling it except silly platitudes.

Thanks so much for your post, I do hope my readers see it and if they don't I shall make it part of a future post.

Agree with Indy - we need the weans.

The problem is one of inclusion. This poor man has been excluded from the workforce because of a disabling condition - not.

In my youth a man of his character would have been shunned by the community.
