Last Thursday the Defence Secretary John Hutton and some of his ministerial team arrived in Scotland to visit various equipment suppliers and military bases in order to see the contribution they make in the support of UK military operations around the world. It is surprising the Scottish media missed this event as I am sure Mr Hutton is classed as a Very Important Person.
He also visited Redford Barracks in Edinburgh where he met with the Scottish government, military personnel, medical staff and soldiers who were injured on operations. The Minister for Defence Equipment and Support, Quentin Davies, spent time at the new factory of McGeoch Marine near Glasgow Airport where he met the company's workforce and later in the day he visited a kilt factory in Motherwell.
Mr Hutton stated, "Scotland has a rich and proud military heritage and continues to make a very important contribution to UK defence, with all three armed forces having a significant presence across the country. Scotland is also home to dozens of our most important military bases, from Faslane Naval Base to the Army's famous Scottish infantry battalions of The Royal Regiment of Scotland in Edinburgh, Penicuil and Fort George."
I'm quite sure Mr Hutton's visit had nothing to do with this at all. Surely Gordon Brown didn't tell Hutton to "get up to North Britain and show these Scots who's in charge"?

subrosa,
The kilt as defence equipment?? It usually hides some quite offensive equipment.
OK, I'll get my coat.
Ok brownlie, but I disagree. I've seen some of the least offensive equipment known to man under a kilt.
Right I'll get ma jaiket :)
subrosa,
