"I say you pay" - Prince Andrew

This is Princess Beatrice and her male 'companion' is her bodyguard who is paid by taxpayers. She is protected 24 hours a day every day of the year and her sister Eugeine receives the same privileges.  The annual cost to us has been calculated at approximately £500,000.

Met chiefs wanted to downgrade Bea and Eugenie's protection 3 years ago after a risk assessment concluded they were in no greater danger than the children of the Kents, but the move was blocked by Prince Andrew, who insisted his daughters, (fifth and sixth in line to the throne), continue to receive round-the-clock security.

My suggestion to Prince Andrew is "I say you pay" for your daughters' protection if you are so worried and stop expecting the taxpayer to fund Beatrice's jaunts.

It's time Beatrice grew up and stopped behaving like a spoilt brat.

Lord love us. Does the poor man have to wipe her bottom too? I thought they were there to stop her being attacked or kidnapped because she is a relative of the Queen.

Do we really pay out this kind of money because the thick princess hasn't got the wit to take her keys out of the ignition when she leaves her very desirable car to go shopping? Toffs are careless as my granny would say.

She sounds like a real thicko.

I agree. If andrew wants this stupid girl to have protection he should pay for it out of the vast amount of money he gets for being an elderly playboy and playing golf. He's another complete waste of space.

Well said as always tris. This infuriates me these minor royals behaving like brats.

I take it you're a Republican as well as SNP, SR?

As a Unionist and a Monarchist, I agree, it's ott.

Royalty - an expensive anachronism the UK can no longer afford.

No GV I'm not a republican and I'm not a member of the SNP either. I support the direct Royal family but I don't see why we should be paying for people to escort these lassies on foreign holidays, to night clubs etc. It's an insult to our hard earned money.

I support independence for Scotland GV and it's my desire that we get their still being good friends with all our neighbours.

She's making Paris Hilton look good!

First of all I thought some joker had Photoshopped all the Beatrice images and then I realised they were real and didn't know whether to feel sorry or just laugh. I've stopped laughing now and wonder if maybe Joe Public will get round to dealing with these parasites when they've finished with the Westminster Sty.

Thank you Subrosa. I'm neither one way or the other about the "senior" royals. It simply doesn't interest me and it will never affect me, so I really don't care.

But these very minor royals, who contribute nothing to the country, really have to make up their minds where they are. If they want to be royal they get out and open things and visit hospices and charities and do other good things that please the people who pay for them.

If, on the other hand, they want to have gap years and university education and fulfilling careers, then they can stop acting like royals and behave like other rich kids, but at their family's expense, not ours.

I wouldn't fancy my chances in a square go with that one. I might be able to take the bodyguard, mind.

I do feel picking on her majesty's Granddaughter is a bit below the belt. Perhaps if you want to attack some one then her father may be more appropriate after all he has fought for Queen and country in a war and is able to look after himself.

Attacking someone through there children is to me and most decent
people beyond the pale

So you don't mind paying for bodyguards to accompany her on her expensive holidays and in night clubs etc Niko? You're entitled to your opinion of course. I just disagree with you.

subrosa said...

Oh Jim, that smacks a wee bit of desperation!

But it does affect you tris, a few bob of your taxes goes on this a month. Every little counts :)

And, if you read the article, Princess Anne never had bodyguards for her children. They used to run around in the town here quite happily when she came down to see the equestrian folks.

Spongers the lot of them if they need protecting then the Tower of London is open most days of the week to walk into protected by Beefeaters. A complete waste of taxpayers money why should we pay for their offspring when there are far more deserving souls needing assistance in the wider community.

Hum... you're right SR.

I wonder if I can put it on expenses?

subrosa said...

Worth a try I suppose tris, but I wouldn't be rushing to bet you'll be successful. Us Dundonians aren't usually lucky :)

I'd forgotten about the Tower Highlander. Great idea and might just focus their wee minds a little.

He's a rubbish bodyguard. His eyes are closed as someone takes a shot at his ward. (Thankfully only a camera shot this time.)

Personally (as a Republican) I think any prospective Royal Family should pay us. We (as a self-sovereign nation) would certify them as an exclusive partner. This would give them licence to trade (i.e. make pots of money) in whatever world social market they felt they could excel in...

Any suggestions Mek? Vulgar jewelry or promoting Slimfast?

Subrosa,

I'm shocked. I was thinking only of which of the two I'd best be able to take on at fisticuffs.

But you have touched a nerve, nonetheless. No doubt about that.

Hmmm.

Doing anything next Thursday?

Jim, I'm long past taking any of them on unless verbally but how I wish I was younger :)
