Today's Scotsman has a dreadfully cheap headline 'Minister provokes nuclear war over Scotland's energy future.' Aside from the over-dramatic headline, it seems we're to receive a visit from the UK government's Energy Secretary Ed Milliband today. Amazing isn't it, never see a high heid yin from Westminster for months and then suddenly they're all here to show us what a wonderful job they're doing for us all.
Ahead of his visit, Mr Milliband yesterday challenged the SNP to reverse its opposition to nuclear power "for the sake of the planet as well as jobs." Now, where have I heard that before? He went on, "Credible solutions to the challenge of climate change require we use the full range of low-carbon fuels. Even previous opponents of nuclear power have accepted that it is wrong to rule out new nuclear in these circumstances." While Mr Millband is promoting his love of nuclear energy, our own Jim Mather will be visiting the Isle of Lewis where a controversial 53 turbine wind farm near the Callanish standing stones is expected to be given the go-ahead shortly. A spokesman for Mr Salmond accused Mr Milliband of trying to dictate Scotland's energy policy and of frustrating its efforts towards renewables. "We would never seek to interfere in the energy debate south of the Border," he said. "Similarly it's not Ed Milliband's job to dictate an energy strategy north of the border."
Scotland doesn't want new nuclear. We want to base our future and our children's future on renewable energy. Why can't the UK government understand the word NO? For many reasons I suspect not least some of them given by Dizzy on his blog. We know where we're going with our energy policies and it's time Westminster realised we won't be bullied by them or anyone else.

There will be more of this, up to and including the California Gambit - switching the lights off and claiming lack of capacity. These incidents are appropriately named 'brownouts'.

Typical Westminster claptrap, why didn't they get their finger oot when we were negotiating a thermal capture plant in Peterhead - because it wasn't going to line Labour's pockets, don't you just despise these gits?
I really can't wait to fuck these idiots over during a GE and SE, the worst thing is that I am law abiding and unfortunately I have no other option than to sit on my hands, they'd be useful ringing a few "red" necks!

'Nuclear power will be part of the energy mix' if it is economically viable, but new nuclear power stations should not leave taxpayers with liabilities for their running, decommissioning or waste. Nuclear is not an alternative to developing and expanding renewable forms of energy.

There is a massive future in sustainable green electricity production, which Salmond and Scotland have started to embrace, we can have the prize of many thousands of jobs and R&D, from that.
Instead of building warships on the Clyde we can be engineering for the green revolution. At the moment our wind turbines are shipped from Denmark and Germany on their purpose built ships. What a sin and a disgrace. Shipped into the Clyde once the greatest centre of excellence in the world for engineering and ship building. Now a shadow of it's former self due to social engineering by Labour and it's unionist imperialism.

I actually think Ed Miliband agrees with the Scottish Government's concentration on renewables for Scotland but is simply trotting out the UK labour party line as directed by no.10.
The question that the scotsman and others fail to even cosnider before they print these Labour press releases is what's Scottish Labour's View.
If you watch the coverage, Scottish labour are curiously absent from everything that's going on today.

You don't mind nuclear then niko? That's fine, of course you're entitled to choose. Yes I knew about tory policy with regard to it. Could be interesting to see if any of the tory party has close family ties with energy companies.
I visit that site now and again KW. What annoys me is that my friends in Lincoln pay nearly half for a bigger house then mine and they joke it's Scottish electricity. I don't find it amusing but nothing's been done about our charges to the grid.
Why don't we care about such things? We moan about utility costs but don't do something. Unless we start shouting our politicians won't do anything either. Another question I'll have for election candidates.
