A Call for Islamic Reform in Britain

Dr Taj Hargey writes in today's Times comment section an article which must be of importance to anyone who has an interest in Britain's future.  He is the chair of the Muslim Educational Centre of Oxford and the Imam of the Summertown Islamic Congregation and describes the "McCarthyite" campaign which the "Muslim heirarchy in Britain" have waged against him.

His article subtitle states "Britain has been taken over by the followers of a distorted faith.  We need a reformation to rescue it."

A must read for all.

Aye JPT I'm sure he knows it. Brave of him to stick his head above the parapet, we need more, many more, like him.

Excellent article but Islam needs an enlightenment not a reformation.

Do explain the difference enlightenment would make compared to reformation Falco. Sorry I'm being thick here but both mean a change from worse to better don't they?

I agree with the Dr's labelling of (at least much of today's) Islam as "distorted". It is a point I have covered more than once in some of my writings on the subject.

It is the devil's twisting of the original recitation given to (and emanating from) the Prophet, and being distorted by evil and compliant men who used his later life as a warlord as a (false) model of how to behave that is behind much of the problem with Islam today.

Perhaps 'enlightenment' would lead to 'reformation', thus the theoretical, known to scholars and the like, could be transformed into practice for the millions of followers.

John how could your idea be started? By whom? I've read your post and it's fascinating but my understanding of Islam is rather 'general' although I do try to be open minded.
