FMQs 19 March 2009

Rather late with my assessment of today's FMQs because I've been spending some of the day in the company of a male gynaecologist with the biggest, bluest eyes in the world.  It's no wonder the women of Perthshire rate him the best, as well as these eyes his demeanor is a perfect balance between relaxing and professional.  Enough of my blethers which are only of interest to women but it's made me think - if men had female urologists with big blue eyes...

I'm of the same opinion as Jeff about today's half hour, it wasn't in the least interesting.  For any party leader to use a constituency case as their question seems the lazy way and this was the basis of Iain Gray's session.  An apprentice had problems continuing his training and Mr Gray expected Alex Salmond to right the problem with immediate effect.  Alex Salmond was in his usual commanding form and beat Mr Gray with the £500m Westminster reduction in the Scottish budget.  Again I plead with Iain Gray to get some lessons in public speaking. Doesn't Glasgow have a splendid School of Drama he could attend?  I doubt if they would even charge him.

Aunty Annabelle was on fighting form, it was noticeable by the way she shaped up to her performance with discreet shoulder relaxing exercises. "We shouldn't be giving free prescriptions to wealthy people," she raved,"They can well afford to be ill and pay up."  Alex kindly explained he wanted everyone, regardless of wealth, to have free healthcare including medicines.  Aunty Annabelle wasn't happy.  I was tempted to send her an email saying there are plenty wonderful medical charities to which the wealthy can contribute if they feel they don't deserve free pills and I'm sure she knows the administration costs of the present system, plus the abuse of it, makes it sensible to have it free for all.

Tavish Scott homed in on employment in the renewables sector to which the First Minister was pleased to reply with the fact that this government are producing nearly 12 new major projects a year compared with the last administration which managed around 4.

It seemed as if everyone was just going through the motions today and it lacked even the slightest sign of vitality.  Tomorrow's another day.

I'm wondering, now Jeff's back doing his FMQs blog, if I should continue as he does it so much more succinctly.

Does Ms Goldie also want those of adequate means to have withdrawn from them:-
free bus passes, winter fuel allowances, "child benefits", state pensions?
She probably does but is too scared to say so...

I thought her jibe (twice) at AS was inappropriate and ill-judged.

How does alex whinge(as ever) over missing Westminster money. when he and the snp kick the poor and the sick Scots in the stomach and give the cash they need to the wealthy who plainly do not.

Whats the point of giving Alex and the snp Government £500 million. Which Alex and the snp Government hand out to the wealthy...

And as for free nothings free now is it

Gray's harping on about the apprentice who needed to finish his training was starting to remind me of all that 'Joe the Plumber' stuff in the McCain campaign. Would be nice if said apprentice popped his head up to say 'actually I vote SNP, doncha know' - but I suppose it's a fair bet he's a card-carrying member of the People's Party.

She possibly does Andrew but then, when it comes down to it, she'll realise her electorate don't. Wasn't a good performance from her today - too weak and contrived.

Niko, the administration of the present system costs a fortune and there are many people who are just over the limit for free prescriptions, plus of course, the thousands who claim free but can well afford it (that's the ones who know the monitoring of prescriptions has been pathetic for years. I think only 1 in 5000 is actually physically checked).

You're right of course, nothing is free. We even have to pay for Gordon Brown to eat - did you know that? He doesn't have to go to Asda and pay for it himself.

Aye Vronsky, he'll have put the word out in his constituency that he needs a young person who's an apprentice. Will be interesting to know the whole story because I'm sure Alex Salmond will get it out of the lad. May not even match up with Iain Gray's version.

Here is a site worthy of a daily trawl.

It sets out the day's political agenda according to Gordon.

The Lobby briefing, before it hits the dead tree press.

Yes, Subrosa and for his butler and taster!

subrosa said...

Thank you Faux Cu, I've added that to my blog list. Should be good for a smile or cry (however you see it) on a rainy day.

Oldrightie, do tell me you jest about a taster, please.

Whats a gynaecologist ?
............
Okay moving on, i watched FMQ,s on the beeb,s website and the high point for me was Anabell being ticked of for name calling.lol she sat down without finishing her question.

Salmond was on good form and panned Lewis Macdonald on the electricty grid and the fact Scotland will be exporting electricty down south and the fact we dont need Nuke power. All round i enjoyed it but Iain Grey is as dull and Gray as ever.

Google it Spook, and don't be jealous because men don't have one (a specialist I mean) lol.

Annabelle didn't look happy right enough Spook, with her "I bow to your order presiding orifice'. We've still to get this grid business sorted out though and that's going to be tough. I do hope the SG is working hard on it constantly. We need a decent price of connection.

I thought Ian Gray, as he increasinly does, won and comfortably. Exposing once more how slogans, well enough intentioned policy commiments aint enough.

Alex needed all his rehtorical skill to stay afloat.

But here is my analysis -which aint intellectually hostile to the SNP. It needs to waken up to the reality that the adminsitration it presides over - The Civil Sevive and its sub quagos - are just rubbish, absolutely rubbish,

It was rubbish under Labour, but it suited the SNP in opposition to "blame London" not home grown bureacrats, so it was never exploited. But it suits labour in opposition's to exploit , and by god they are doing this well.

And the SNP - as it is the Goverment now - will pay the price. Especilly if it contues to opoligise for them, cover for them, read their briefs.

And especially if it contues 0 as Eck doe sliek a talking parrort these day - band on an about LOndan £500m cuts, when all this really is is a UK wise 1% efficiency savingsdemand in a recession where the prices of near everything is falling. The SG/SNP shoud instaed offer to save a billion ( to be used fo front line service provision) - if Labour in Scotland promises to help, help root out the inept, take the vested interests, including the public sector unions - from the First Division Association to the PCS. And say loud and clear that the people of Scotland - that's 5 million of us - deserve better than this antiquated 35,000 (and rising!) mob provide.

The key to indpenedence, of this I am sure. No small, new, dynamic nation could afford to carry this baggage. And 90% of the top mandarins are Unionists to the core, however nicely the smile in your precence minster, Firts Minsiter. A dispturbing proportion of the top guts Oxbridde educated, and in realty mostly london Civil servce rejects, up here as they couldnae cut it down south. Apart for 1% of them - M15 plants. There is probably one high up in Skills Sector Scotland Eck!

And just do read the letter Fiona Hyslops department wrote (I know not by Fiona, but signed by her to the leader of the opposition) to a 19 year old apprecntice fearfull for his job. Appauling - in any country, in any constitutional arrangement, under any government - even mine. Especially mine

Desperately trying not to post anything rude...
What the hell; it would surely cause more stiffness than it cured etc.
I'll think about Auntie Annabelle for a wee while.

That's better.

subrosa said...

Post what you like Conan, I know it will always raise a smile ;)

So it's true what they say about big blue eyes...

subrosa said...

Niko I don't know where he's coming from - a pond or the chicken run but I've answered him on his own blog. He tends to post his own blog posts on other people's blog. Cut and paste, the internet's best invention.

subrosa,

It looks as if Conan's raising more than a smile.

Aye we can????

I think you're awfy fond of Labour for some-one who claims to look for independence. To be frank, you lost all credibility with your comments about Maggie Curran. Curious you should criticise the FDA and PCS, the unions who stubbornly reject, at every conference, motions to subsidise New Labour.

subrosa said...

Now Brownlie, you well know Conan's been instructed by the doc to have more exercise. How he raises his blood pressure really isn't any business of ours is it ;)

Conan, Auntie Annabel has a different effect on me !!!

Brownlie his name wasn't Tom (the doc's I mean) :)

subrosa said...

The Last of the Few, I mentioned the gyne to remind male readers how much more women suffer and of course those eyes ...

Sorry if it upset you in any way.

Oh Last of the Few, I meant to thank you for the compliment and giving me the encouragement to continue every Thursday. Nobody else has commented so I take it they couldn't care less, but just for you, I shall strive on.
