FURTHER MUSINGS about the CAMERON ARTICLE

Two respected writers have given their opinions on David Cameron's article in the Scotland on Sunday.  Alex Massie of the Spectator has his personal slant on Dave's notion of how he will manage Scotland and Jonathan Isaby of ConservativeHome gives his tuppence worth.  The comments section (at the end) of the ConservativeHome post are fascinating.

Taking a purely emotional view for a moment, I think there is more personal chemistry between Annabel and Alex than there is between Annabel and David. These things matter.

As for the Con home comments, they are desultory. The only thing I can discern from them is that no one is particularly bothered about Scotland and nobody is against a referendum. Perhaps I am missing something there.

If there are people in Scotland who previously voted Labour, my guess is they are going to switch to the SNP, since quite a lot of them still remember Thatcher.

I am all guesswork today, but isn't it what the pundits do..guess?

please look at my wonderful, eccentric blog..

Morning WW. I do look at your blog and I've added it to my list because I enjoy it. You've been on my reader for a while but I've only realised you're not listed - my apologies.

You're right, there is a respect between Annabel and Alex and that is valuable. The CH comments didn't surprise me, but it was interesting few objected to us going our own way.

True it's all guesswork and we're just as capable as guessing, maybe more so, that our elected representatives.

the Scotland Secretary and First Minister having official monthly meetings

You happy with that?

a referendum vote effectively endorsing the current constitutional settlement would allow David Cameron to rightly claim to be the legitimate Prime Minister across the United Kingdom.

"rightly claim to be the legitimate Prime Minister"

You nats don't get it do you
a legitimate prime minster needs the whole united kingdom..

Dave and the torys dont want half or even a third of a kingdom they want the lot..

Nikos,

Why do they want the lot if Scotland is as much of a liability as many unionists claim?

Apart from anything else would the Tories not be better side-lining Labour forever and a day in the UK by aiding and abetting Scottish independence?

They said that when maggie got in there would be a Tory Government forever..There wasn't Governments come Governments go.

The British nation is to mixed to be able to pull it apart as you believe.

And I spos'e perhaps the one thing that labour, conservatives and the lib dems do share is their belief in one united Kingdom.

Unless the tories gain 20+ seats at the election, then they will have no mandate here as Dave has noted. Anyone want to put a £5 on them gaining 20?

Brownlie, we all know why they need to keep us. Think about it. My pal, with a house the same size as mine, has an electricity bill less that 2/3 of mine. I phoned npower (who supplies us both) and asked for the over 60 plan. "It's not available in Scotland'. I protested that it was Scottish electricity and I was told "don't shout you're abusing me". I was abusing him?? Before I did abuse him I hung up.

Niko 'Honi soit qui mal y pense' is my school motto.

I've another saying for you:

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.

Nikos,

How come you managed to get onto subrosa's blog when I couldn't?? Were the two of you busy???

Whatever happens, I think it's twitchy bottom time for New Labour. Still, they will probably be laughing all the way to the bank. What's the betting Gordon and his Darling end up with directorships. Oh, it's fine and dandy being a Labour grandee!

WV is: anked, feel free to write "B" or whatever at the beginning.

The United Kingdom should remain united against a Government that cares only for itself.

Oldrightie,

Interesting comment! What is it based on?

subrosa said...

Why is that Oldrightie? Don't you want rid of the whingeing Scots?

'And I spos'e perhaps the one thing that labour, conservatives and the lib dems do share is their belief in one united Kingdom.'

Aye niko that's all well and good, but their belief isn't based on equality is it? It's far more of what we do for them than what they do for us from the unionists.

Brownlie, don't know why you couldn't get in this morning unless it was when I was composing the DC post.

Anyway all's well now I see. I would be distraught if you stopped visiting.

Both Cameron and Brown have stated they will do all in their power to stop Scottish independece.

It really is not the kind of language they should be using as it sounds very confrontational and threatining, we do not need any more confrontation in these British islands.

Surely they would be much better served adopting a more conciliatory tone, and saying that if it is the settled wish of the Scottish nation to govern them selves then we will help in that process. Surely that would serve the UK better.

Cameron has given as his reason for wanting to do all in his power to stop independence as , "we have so much in common and acheived so much together."

After independence we will still have these same common traits and we will be able to acheive so much more together as good neighbours, not as constantly bickering in laws.

Both Scotland and England need to find their back bone and national identity, the UK does not provide that. The likes of Brown and Thatcher have seen to that.

Aye Conan, they make interesting reading indeed :)

'we have so much in common and acheived so much together'

KW, do you think that means they need us more than we need them in code?

subrosa said...

Conan, I used the word "interesting" as you know I do my best to be a polite wifey. Other adjectives initially sprung to mind I assure you.

We know that, they know that, and that is what seems to be creating so much phlegm and spittle from the mouths of the Britnats.

"How dare these impertinent Jocks want there own nation, who do they think they are, we English are a very generous nation." Aye right, on yer bike.

See what I mean about phlegm and spittle: http://tinyurl.com/cwuccz

KW thanks so much for the link. I can never find these things on Youtube. I shall keep it for the referendum debate.

Would be interesting to give it to ConservativeHome and see if they run it :-)
