“He is trying to get us to appear more and more nationalistic. Waving figures like William Wallace and Robert the Bruce as giants of nationalism does nothing to make the parliament more cohesive.”
Iain Smith, the Lib Dem culture spokesman, added: “The Scottish parliament houses representatives of the people of Scotland, is situated in Scotland’s capital and promotes Scotland to the wider world at every opportunity. It does not need nationalist gimmicks.”
Kenneth Gibson is the SNP MSP who put forward the proposal.
Why are these unionist MSPs in the Scottish Parliament? It's perfectly obvious they have little regard and even disdain for Scotland and her history.
Our country deserves better. So many Scots have world-wide reputations and deserve to be honoured, inside Parliament as well as outside. Names such as Carnegie, John McAdam, Flora MacDonald, Lady Nairne, Walter Scott, Alexander Graham Bell, John Logie Baird, James Watt, Thomas Telford and a long, long list of others, are all prominent internationally respected Scots.
The people have to say something about this narrow unionist attitude. It is speedily eroding our culture and we cannot allow that to happen or, before we know it, we shall be the section of Europe known as North Britain and Scotland will only be a name in the title of history books.
No labour party MSP made a comment I notice. They couldn't do so because Donald Dewar was a labour MSP who is little know outside the UK and the USA.

I was astounded when I read this. That unionists feel this proposal is divisive demonstrates the utmost disrespect for the Scots as a people, and a repudiation of our history, struggles, and achievements. That any Scot would vote for such slithering toadies to southern hegemony is unbelievable. I can only assume that the old "postal vote" scam is alive and flourishing in our land.
Scunnert, this should be the headlines in all Scottish newspapers but not one has reported it.
I've heard rumours about the postal vote rigging in Glenrothes but little detail. It's obvious, by the unprecedented number of postal votes, that some how there was dirty play but no journalist has had the courage to investigate.
Thanks for adding National Death Service to your 'blog list!
My pleasure Mark. We have our 'own' NHS up here of course but much overlaps. Some interesting articles you do.
What about a Ken Buchanan room?
I'm all for that Niko, although personally I'd prefer a Dick McTaggart room. Then I would, wouldn't I?
