Have A Go

Well I never as they say! I'm sure most of us have tried the Political Compass at some time I've just given it another go having tried it perhaps a year or so ago, (too hot for me to be in the garden). Can't believe I've moved to the left, although it's a position where I'm comfortable.

If you'd like to see where you are or if you've changed in any way, you can find out here.

I don't think the Political Compass is valid.

I've done it before and came out left of centre libeterian.

This time I cam out almost dead centre.

OK I'm anti big business which puts me towards the left. But no question that allows me to say strikers should be hung which might move me to the right.

Sure I'm anti big business but I hate unions more. And hey bring back the poll tax, the only fair tax we've ever had. Don't know what the lazy scots had against it.

I've done this one several times before and, as always with these, there are some ambigous ones; some where you agree but not for the reasons that the setter intends or has scored the answer. Therefore always with a pinch of salt.

Anyway, since I last did it, my economics have stayed the same but I'm getting more authoritarian it seems.

Economic Left/Right: 9.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 2.82

I'm about half-way between Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama which I happen to consider pretty darn good company. :-)

It can be difficult when there's an ambiguous meaning to a question TT, but it's a bit of fun.

subrosa said...

Surely not CR. One of your type manages the local bookshop. ;)

subrosa said...

A pleasure Joe.

Michael, it's more for amusement rather than a serious assessment.

Excuse me. I'm a Scot and I think the poll tax was an excellent idea. Pity Maggie decided to test it out here first. That's what gave the hard left the reason to protest.

subrosa said...

And I'm more libertarian ASE. I can't believe that really. :)

subrosa said...

Indeed Jeanne, many would be rather proud to be associated with these two men.

You've a long way to visit yer best pal Dram. Maybe you use Skype. ;)

Aye that's been the headlines today Indyan. I'll have a look at the Facebook page.

I see what he's trying to do though, but in this strange world it's kind of risky.

I am just 3 grid small squares closer to Libertarian than you, but other wise very close to your result.

I Have done the test before and always end in the same quadrant (I seem to travel along the Libertarian / authoritarian axis).

subrosa said...

I'm certainly in good company then Fiale. I was slightly more to the right before.

Stewart Cowan said...

I'm just a bit NE of your position, SR - slightly left-leaning economically and slightly libertarian.

Did you see the 2010 General Election graph?

Labour are to the right of the BNP and nearly as authoritarian. But then, we all knew that.

And I wonder how the control freak Greens are considered the most libertarian.

subrosa said...

Aye Stewart, it's strange the Greens being Libertarian. Can't work that one out at all.

A similar score to this one

SC, it has UKIP as more authoritarian than the Conservatives.

I campaigned with UKIP locally against Bercow and found the campaign team extremely libertarian. This was Farage and the top level guys. No way are they authoritarian.

I have to say I've not heard anything from the Greens that attracted me to them as libertarians. Most I hear makes me think they all have portraits of Pol Pot.

subrosa said...

My result from that is Left 1.14, Libertarian 2.06 Mrs R. Just slightly right of the other one.

Many thanks for that link.

Rosie, rather strangely I seem like you to have become more left wing and have crossed the line, although unlike you I am still slightly Authoritarian. This left wing thing worries me. It must be a throw back to trying to defend the SNP's policies at the GE.

subrosa said...

Could well be DL. I'm more left than I was. Think I was middle of the road before. Such a long time since I did it... ;)

Stewart Cowan said...

Michael, the Greens would leave us living like the Amish and signed up to every UN 'initiative' designed to suck funds out of the country for international environmental propaganda.

Thanks for the link.
Hadn't tried it before.
Whaddya know, my score (3 down, 4 to the left) is pretty close to yours (2 down, 4 to the left).

Brave of you to support the Poll tax. I'll put my head above the parapet and say the old rates system had something to be said for it. (It was allowed to fall into disrepair, perhaps deliberately to pave the way for its successor).
The merit of the rates system is that it recognises the way local government expenditure enhances the local community.
Or not.
If it does, house prices go up;
if not, house prices go down.
(All else equal, obviously).

The rating system is still the way that businesses pay their dues to the local public purse.

Do you have a preferable alternative to that?

subrosa said...

I didn't own a house until my mid 30s Hamish and it was in England where the rates were much cheaper then than here.

I really would like to see the SNP's tax but I think they've given up on that. It's too fair perhaps and we can't have everyone paying as much as they can afford can we?

Problem is of course, it's those who get the most state help who shout the loudest in such circumstances.
